Loved the movie......hated the director's cut. I liked it better when I used my imagination to know what was going on.
Stay classy. I liked the movie...I love movies that make you think. I'm just still trying to figure it all out (and it appears I could do that for a long time according to what I've read).
Even after watching the deleted scenes and director commentary I'm still scratching my head...but in a good way.
to me, its one of those sleeper films that no one really knows about but once they see it they are in "the club" I havent seen it since 2002, but I remember the ideas of destiny, free will, changing the future, Intelligent Design, God, time travel, and souls... remember those spirits that would float out of everyones stomachs that Donnie could see at the party? to me, those were leading everyone to their destiny, taking them to their future... you see one float to another room, then the person follows...he or she has fulfilled their destiny to walk to the other room... I also remember that one line in the teachers lounge, when Drew Barrymore and Noah Wyle just look at each other and he says ...."Donnie Darko" and they shake their heads... like they know he is destined for greatness... he sacrifices himself to save his family, but the jet makes it throughthe wormhole to start the "alternate universe"
The director's cut truly was a bad idea. Just let people fill in the gaps however they want using their imagination!
I think the problem for me was that I was expecting too much. A few friends really praised the movie - so I was expecting a masterpiece. The film was intriguing, and darkly humorous...but I wasn't buying the sci fi elements. I like that stuff sometimes, but thought it was implausible this time. There are also some metaphysical problems with the movie's take.
I have no idea what this movie is about, haven't seen anything on it. and the website didn't help any. But looks interesting, I might have to go see it. Is this in theaters?
