what do you mean who? former rocket coach. UH alum.

I had his basketball card. I hated buying a pack of cards and getting a Coach or Checklist...

I know that Rick Adelman is said to be a player's coach. I remember the same being said about Don Chaney as well.

The one bad thing I'll remember about Don Chaney's Rocket teams is that they had the tendency to play out of control too much of the time, especially in the last season (1991-92) that he coached.

I still remember the coaching reins being handed over to Rudy T during that 1991-92 season.

I guess not many people watched the post game show?

Get rid of Cheney. That was literally painful listening to him talk.

Yeah. I didn't think anyone could be worse than Mr. Kiss of Death himself but Cheney is the worst I've seen.

Players coach? He would rip and dissect the team's flaws in great detail to the local press. It was painful to hear. To me, he was the opposite of a players coach. When Rudy took over, he was the exact opposite. Rudy would never publicly criticize the team, especially individual players like Chaney did. (Instead, Rudy would yell, scream and rip the players during the game :) ). But he wouldn't with the microphones in his face. Rudy learned what NOT to do from Chaney.

I remember Chaney's last game as coach. The Rockets were up by 25 points in the 3rd quarter at home against the Clippers and the team just quit on him. Maybe it was something he said. They lost the game and he was fired the next day. Doesn't sound like a players coach to me.

I was only comparing him with Bill Fitch, if anything. Bill Fitch had a rather iron-fisted approach to coaching, and I can remember Olajuwon criticizing that. He once said during the 1987-88 season that the team played tight basketball under Fitch because when any one of the players would make a mistake out there, he would take them out.

Great performance in Frankenstein! Too bad he couldn't get any real juicy roles after that due to typecasting.

I never thought Chaney was a good coach. I remember being at the T-Wolves game we lost right before he was fired. Embarassing.
