It's kinda hard for him to pass the ball when he has a wide open layup. It seemed like Kevin spent the entire first half standing out of bounds under the basket, waiting for his defender to leave him for a double-team, and then stepping back in for a wide open shot.
I'm referring to when Willis would do his turnaround jumpers from 8-10 ft away. When he's posting up, there's no hope to see him pass the ball.
Of course he doesn't pass the ball. Don't you guys remember his nickname(if he wasn't called that before, he should definitely be called that now) = "The Black Hole" because once you throw the ball into him, you'll never get it back!!
I don't care as long as he scores down low. Its not like 4 by our guards are going to break stocktons record. If you think thats bad, someone should check out moses malone and kevin mchale
If Willis is "The Black Hole", what do you call Othella? Didn't he have about a 0.2 asst/G average? Surely Willis bettered that by at least half an assist.
Low assist totals don't always mean he doesn't pass. Maybe he's passed the ball over 10,000 times and each time the person he has passed to didn't score....? But I gotta admit, 1.04 assists per game? Didn't he play with 'Nique for a while?
Oh come on, there are many good things about Kevin Willis. But passing isn't one of them. I'm not sure if he's selfish, or he's just one of those guys that "zones" in on trying to score. Kevin gets the ball, backs it in, and is going to shoot. Othella seemed to do the same thing. I really don't think Willis should have taken the last shot of regulation... but then, I didn't see it. Was it "a great shot," or was he being selfish?
Haven, If I recall correctly, the last shot of regulation was planned for Willis. There was less than a second on the shot clock so we needed a catch and shoot/tip in type shot. I had no problem with the shot, and it almost went it. Considering the defense had a pretty good idea what we were going to do, Willis did a good job putting the ball up there. There was no way he could have passed on that shot. Willis will pass the ball on occassion, but why should we be concerned about a guy shooting 50% passing the ball? As far as I'm concerned, if his turnovers are low, and he hits 50% from the field, he could have 0.3 assists per game and I'd be happy. I think a lot of us have been spoiled recently by Kenny T's passing ability. KT's passing is very important to his game since he is undersized at his position. If he is being covered tightly, chances are good his shot will get blocked or altered. Maybe the other reason people are questioning Kevin's passing ability is that Hakeem was such a good passing center. Most centers don't average much above 1 assist a game. Last years stats for this years starting centers Atl - Ratliff 1.2 Bos - Battie 0.4 / Potapenko 0.8 Cha - Campbell 1.3 (More of a PF than center in my mind) Chi - Miller 1.9 Cle - Doleac 0.8 / Mihm 0.3 Dal - Bradley 0.5 Den - LaFrentz 1.4 Det - Wallace 1.5 GSW - Dampier 1.4 Hou - Cato 0.3 Ind - Oneal J 1.2 LAC - Olowokandi 0.6 LAL - Oneal S 3.7 Mem - Reeves 1.1 Mia - Mourning 0.9 Mil - Johnson 0.5 Min - Nesterovic 0.6/ Garret 0.3 NJN - MacCulloch 0.2 NYK - Camby 0.8 Orl - Ewing 1.2 Phi - Mutombo 1.1 (atl) 0.8 (phi) Pho - Wallace 0.6 Por - Davis 1.3 Sac - Divac 2.9 (I didn't mean to forget him! ) SAS - Robinson 1.4 Sea - Booth (was) 0.6 (dal) 1.3 Tor - Olajuwon 1.2 Uth - Ostertag 0.3 Was - White 0.3 Okay, my eyes hurt now... Anyway, I'm just trying to point out that Willis averaging 1 assist a game isn't that bad compared to other centers. B
