I was watching some Amare highlights; posting up, putting the ball on the floor, and taking it to the rack for a dunk. I have to believe that Eddie has those same physical skills although I know he isn't as strong. I never post....but I'm frustrated with Eddie's lack of tenacity. Why is it he can get up and block shots but he can't have the same aggressiveness when it comes to his offense??????
He seems to play timid at times. The last few games, he's had very good position in the paint for a short jump shot, and he feels compelled to pass it to someone else who's closer, but not necessarily open. I recall one pass to Steve, and another to Yao. Steve was outmatched by the bigger guys who were already on him, and Yao couldn't come up with the ball. On both plays, Eddie should have shot the ball. I think they need to understand that when the ball is passed around, once it gets into an open players hand, especially in the paint, the shot should go up. I don't think he's playing with a lot of offensive confidence yet, and doesn't want to look bad. But he needs to step up every once in a while. I'd like to see him handle the ball more, as in drive with it. I guess time will tell.
I think that was the scouting opinion on him during draft. Too quiet, too "Duncan like" in terms of heart. I think he needs to let some aggression out before he socks one of his teammates...
Simply said, Yes. It appears that he often disappers (usually to the the 3 point line. I think his size (or lack of muscles) is causing him to disappear more than we would like. But in 3-4 years he will be the man.
If I may subscribe anything, it would be 10 hours a week of 1-on-1 with Ming and Cato. At 20 this is all he needs to improve. It's hard to develop in a 5-on-5 context. I hope the Rockets are doing this. Actually, I think I heard they do some kind of 1on1 drills every practice. I think last week Eddie beat out his teammates. Eddie plays with a high center of gravity and doesn't slide very well. It's hard to compare him to Amare because Amare is an all-around athlete. I think a better body-type comparison is Rasheed Wallace, and I wouldn't be too bummed if Eddie develops 85% of what RashWeed is minus the technicals and drug problem.
