When you're on the basketball court? I just don't get how professionally or just guys playing pick up ball do crap like that. How do you put someone's health in danger in a basketball game, even while fighting for a rebound? I don't understand the mindset.

I do not especially since when I play it is just for fun or exercise.

if someone keeps doing something like that to me, i'll eventually tell them to quit it. If they don't, then after a while, i might throw a shoulder into someone's chest. of course, i do this knowing that i'm too small to knock them down or anything...but it'll get their attention. (I just want them to stop doing that crap to me)

I rarely even try to get rebounds because usually in street games it's the other guy jumping all over my back and pushing me underneath the basket which should be a looseball foul but there are no refs in pick up games.

I once hit a guy above the shoulders with an elbow during a game. He had been throwing his elbow in my direction when I was closely guarding him and I kept telling him to watch the elbows. He ignored me, so the next time I caught the ball, I pivoted into him with my elbows high.

I'm not too big of a elbow thrower. I have some guys I hoop with often that do. I usually dont say a word, and either...

    a. Step on their foot, on offense and defense about three plays in a row. Just plant your foot on top of theirs, and grind off the top portion of their shoe.

    b. Usually just go up hard to the glass with my knee out, catching them in a rib.

I chin the ball. If someone invades my space I face up and jabstep with my elbows out. Perfectly legal, think Mutumbo or Chuck wagon.

That is a very large elbow. I'm reminded of the single bullet theory.

I'm not aware that I use my elbows but I have been told to watch my elbows before so that means I've probably caught some people with some inadvertant elbows. I'm mostly a post player so there may be some truth to that. Only times I can think of are when I back-up in the post or when I spin baseline or when I grab a rebound high and bring my arms down to bring the ball in.

I think KingCheetah may be guilty of that. He knocked an old friend's tooth out once on the court. Not sure if it was an elbow though? KingCheetah, time to fess up? Did you or did you not order the Code Red on one older cocker with wood (friend slang) back during the College Years? I WANT THE TRUTH? I can handle it. ;) :D

I throw elbows ocassionally. Only when I secure a rebound(esp defensive boards) and the defender wont stop pestering me ala vujacic. Yes, I have the ball, no you aren't going to get it from me without fouling me.

If you don't start swinging elbows in that situation, players will try to swarm you everytime you get a board, and that can get annoying fast.

But I haven't ever landed an elbow, so I don't think it's such a big deal although it does piss people off sometimes.

I wish I knew how to use my offball elbow in my post up game better though. I know this one guy who uses it really well to create seperation. He uses it just hard enough that you feel it and it's annoying, but soft enough that it doesn't hurt and you can't really say much about it.

What I find funny is when players get all huffy because I wont let them go up with a shot if they clear me out with a shoulder to the chest.

No. I rather assert myself by doing a flying karate kick across a person's face.

If Deke was never a Rocket and elbowed a Rocket during a game I wonder what the reaction would be in GARM? ;)
