I just got back from three days in San Antonio. I took a guided tour this afternoon. The tour guide said that Disney has purchased 400 acres about 6 miles from Sea World and is in negotiations to buy 200 acres more. The tour guide went on to say that Disney is expected to make some kind of official announcement in the next few months. I'm not really sure if this is accurate, but I would think that a tour guide in the hospitality industry would know whether or not it was likely true. If it is accurate, I'm not real sure what the 600 acres would be used for. It's too small to be a full Disney World type venue.
If San Antonio gets another park before Houston.... Oh well, I guess they need things to do during the NBA offseason.
I have heard all the rumors about Houston and Dallas...this is the first time where it appears that the land purchase is a done deal.
San Antonio is more touristy than Dallas or Houston. Wouldn't be surprised if Disney wants a chunk of that money.
There's nothing else to do in San Antonio, they might as well put something there so its not so boring
If she/he is right (and that's a huge "if", as there are still people in Belleville who will tell you Disney owns all the land around there)...then my guess is it's one of the first of the Regional Resorts they've talked about for years, which has gained some traction. It would presumably be operated under the same unit that operates ESPN Zones and the old DisneyQuests, which were put in different cities around the country. The concept is usually rumored to be merely a themed hotel. So you're taking your kids to SeaWorld...why not stay at a Disney themed hotel why you're there?? This is funny, because I actually read a thread about this in WDWMagic yesterday. Here it is http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=216117 more: http://www.laughingplace.com/Latest.asp?I1=ID&I2=2312
guilty as charged. my family vacations there frequently. we have a timeshare interest in the disney vacation club.
Don't forget Katy and the Austin burbs... they're gonna build there, too. I think Texas will be owned by Disney pretty soon!
She works directly for the Alamo Visitors Center. That is, I believe, operated by the convention bureau. I would think that they would make sure it is true before unleashing their guides with that info. It isn't like somebody's brother's next door neighbor in Katy told a friend of ytour Mom that Disney was going to buy in Katy.
My family and I took a boat ride at the River Walk a couple of months ago. The guy driving the boat said the same thing. I'll believe it when I see it. Info like that could surely be found on the internet. You don't think the San Antonio Express paper wouldn't be all over that? Maybe they have. Edit: After reading the resort/spa posts I guess that could be a possibility. But a full-scale Disney? Doesn't sould like it.
What's gonna be funny about this whole Disney-in-Texas thing is that someday it will actually be true and whoever heard the rumors it would open there can finally say.... "I told ya so!", albeit probably 20-30 years later.
