BTW i am realizing the quality of this thread is quickly going down the drain, and i am contributing to that. Sorry, i'll stop. P.S. Smuck!
Well here they are. Shmuck VS Smuck So for every person writing "Smuck" on the internet, there's two people writing "Shmuck." Interpret that information however you want.
I refuse to believe there are 7780 more idiots out there saying "Smuck". With that said, we should drop the subject because it is obviously off topic and we have been for awhile. What was the topic again? Ah yes. Rockets.com sucks.
Maybe T-Mac meant 'short people' sarcastically, since Yao is sooo tall? So finally he can go to China to see a 'short' Chinese? Just a thought. -G'day-
It was an ignorant thing to say, but I'm 100% sure it was said in a joking manner - even without seeing the clip. It's a poor and ignorant stereotype that a lot of Americans get put in their heads because of the jokes the media machine spits out theirself. Maybe it's seriously looked down upon in China and in other Asian communities, but here in America, it's viewed in the same way as saying George Bush is dumb. A quick laugh and that's it. Shaq I believe two years ago made a ignorant reference toward Yao and his language, and everyone - including Yao - knew there was no harm in it. Unfortunately in America, everything that isn't Americanized is a "no harm no foul" joke. I think you (patlabor) are making a case out of nothing.
A few years ago I was in Taiwan. I had a couple of Taiwanese people remark to me how tall I am (6' 4"). I was not offended. Do you think McGrady, Mutombo, Boki and the rest will be offended if kids or adults in China remark how tall they are? Was Yao offended on his book tour when Ann Curry of the today show remarked how big his hands are? Did anyone make a big deal about that? McGrady has been to Asia before to promote Adiddas so obviously he noticed the height difference. This is a dead issue. Quit trying to blow it up into something it is not.
The problem with the McGrady sound bite is we don't know what he said after that line. He could have said "I'm expecting to see alot of short people, that's what Yao said." Although, it still does not make sweeping generalizations like this politically correct.
Yes, Rockets.com is pretty pathetic. It's like a glorified eBay storefront. And why is the background pink? On the "photo galleries" link, the latest thing is the playoffs. not a single gallery (or even one photo) of T-Mac. As a matter of fact, they still have the photo galleries from last year's media day- featuring such Rockets stalwarts as Eddie Griffin, Moochie Norris, Adrian Griffin, Eric Piatkowski, and John Amaechi. This is on the "current photo gallery" page. There are archives, but apparently they're full of pictures of Pat Riley and Mike Dunleavy in short shorts. And now, because I'm bored: Tyler Durden vs. Patlabor1 : Sorry, patlabor1, Tyler wins. Fat Americans vs Short Chinese : Fat Americans win. Houston Rockets vs. Houston Astros : sorry guys, the google has spoken. Astros win. Last one: Was T-Mac serious? Of course not. edit: it's pretty sad that sina.com has had pictures of Yao & T-Mac together (with Les, for crying out loud), and Rockets.com doesn't.
Is anyone here affiliated with the Chronicle?? Or any other local media? Since the press DOES lurk the FRONT page of clutchfans, maybe a link should be placed to this thread on the front page?! Lets get our point across.
For a year that has this much hype the media is really absent from it. Yeah some of it has to do with the Astros and stuff but still they should have some people dedicated to just following the Rockets and bringing us some good articles and interviews which they really haven't.
It would be nice for Feigan or someone at the chronicle or Rockets main website to clue us in on practices. who's doing well? who's struggling? some highlights of those practices? Photos and training camp news, thats the good stuff, thats what we want. Be Big, cool, Be Big and give us some in-camp reports. Are We In, No Were Out, so make us feel like 'we're in' with something other than the mental reminders of what ticket packages to buy.
Definently would be nice to see or hear about the position battles and who is showing up in practice and if anyone has made improvments etc. All we get is hypothetical stuff about how these players should play this year etc.....and nothing else.
"Hmm", is one of my favorite words. Seriously, if you check my posts, you'll find that I start out with "Hmm" all the time. Is that weird or what.
