No, I'm not joking...this is what he said.
The rebroadcast is at 1:30 if you don't believe me (chan. 2)

In T-mac's defense, it looked like he said it in jest and not in a malevolent way (like he was repeating what someone had told him).

Does Yao get to use the word "nee goh" now ? But only if he does it "in jest and not in a malevolent way"(like he was repeating what someone had told him).

Jesus christ, way to break down the doors down in bringing news fans.
what a bloody freakin ignorant statement.

if he doesn't want to take the long trip to china, he should just sit his bloody asss down and skip the trip like he did the Olympics.
China doesn't need him nor NBA fans in china.

I wondor why Kobe Bryant and SF3 is so popular with chinese fans while T-mac is but an echo.

I was really excited about this upcoming season, now this has just let a bitter taste in my mouth.

If he did say this they should circulate this in the press so that chinese fans can see his true colors.

Boy, this coming from a Rox player is truly dissappointing.

O.K., so a team who just won two in a row for the first time and a team looking to win its first playoff series should always get more media coverage than a team that has brought houston two championships and many playoff wins? I like all sports, but its obvious that the Rockets dont get near enough respect for their accomplishments.

    Woah there..

I mean it certainly is a pretty ignorant thing to say, but just because of this your not excited about the season anymore? Your giving up on the Rockets because of something as stupid as this? Haha unless your some 4 foot 2 chinese guy who is insecure about himself, I wouldn't take it too personally.

And please remind me of what else Tmac has said about the chinese for them to hate him as much as you say.

An echo? Maybe because most chinese fans don't understand basketball and ride whoever's jock the media hypes.

Yao in his book even criticizes the chinese fans, saying they don't understand the NBA. Saying they laugh when players scramble on the floor instead of applauding their efforts. Saying how they make fun of smaller players trying to guard bigger players, instead of admiring their courage.

Based on Yao's point of view, I can careless who is popular in China. Oh and trust me, after a few weeks into the season, most of the chinese fans will be on the new jock in town, Tmac, when he is flying through the air doing off the backboard dunks. And thier favorites "SF3" will just be a distant memory.

But what do I care. Bandwaganers.

Hmm, I wondor if there was an NBA game staged in Africa where Yao would say " I like to go to Nigeria and see the natives swinging on there jungle jims"

I wondor if Africans would take that kindly?

Can that be offensive to them? If you were white, hispanic, Asian
maybe no, but if you were Black that would be a really receptive thing to hear coming from an NBA employee who was sent to the country to promote the sport and encourage more fans into the league.

In china there is alot of respect for Sf3 who came to shanghai on his own will to meet his fans and his buddy, not with the motivation of the league (paying him) sending him there or to get an endorsement contract. So there is much love still for Sf even though he is in orlando now.

As with Kobe B, he is way bigger there than T-mac even after T-mac signed with the Rox,

but as you said you don't give a damn so why should I even bother to further explain

T-Mac should keep it up I'm sure he'll win alot of fans all over the world with those type of statements.

    Puh lease.

Francis went over there to promote himself. You make it sound like torture to go over there. Oh the league didn't even pay him! Poor baby!

He was treated like a rock star, he doesn't need people paying him to go over there. And you know what, he better cherish it while he can.

There's a reason why he needs to promote himself in China, and quick. Because he will soon be forgoten like a bad date.

Wanna know why he's so popular in China? 2 words.

    Yao.

    Ming.

If Francis wasn't on the Rockets with the Chinese National Icon, they wouldn't give a rats ass about him. I mean, sure, they would see him in the highlights(since thats all they watch) and ohhh and ahhhh, but he wouldn't be the kind of star he is today without Yao.

Why is Kobe so popular? The media. The chinese can't watch 82 games a year. Heck, they can't even watch the 4 games a week on ESPN. They see 2-3 selective games a week, and when i say selective, i mean Rockets, Lakers etc. Big Market teams.

They want to hype the NBA in China so they only show sexy teams, with media darling stars. Like Kobe. The "next Jordan". And over in China, they eat that **** up. Why? It all comes back to my what i said before. They don't know better. They don't understand basketball. All they know is ohhhh and ahhhh.

How do I know all this? I go to Beijing every other summer. They never show Orlando games. Few people have ever even seen Tmac play. All they know is he is the scoring champ for the last 2 seasons, and that he is a ballhog. Why? Cause the media tells them so. And they just don't know better.

But guess who the media is turning to now. Now that Tmac is on the same team as their Golden Boy, he's gonna be the hottest thing since Kung Pao chicken.

    And Francis?

    Poof.

    Gone with the wind.

But like I said, what do i care. I know better than Bandwagoners.

Umm, it looks like we're veering off the subject here with this Kobe/Steve popularity stuff. Fact is that it was a stupid thing for T-mac to say. Especially since he just happens to have a Chinese teammate that's.... um.... really tall. But it really doesn't sound malevolent, just maybe a bit ignorant. I figure that by tomorrow evening T-mac will issue an apology/retraction and this thing will blow over before it becomes anything.

If you don't give a hoot, why the long retort?
Some people might feel offensive in having somebody who is PAID by the league to go for a trip to promote and maybe expand the league being called a nation to the likes of a people of midgets.

    Yes that sounds really flatterring,

pls T-Mac come to China, call us a nation of midgets to fuel further stereotypes of our race and we'll buy more of your jerseys and watch more of your games with a big fat smiling face.

Please go defend him some more, you make great logic
calling somebody a bandwagoner when he who signed up to this forum last month.

Francis went to pormote HIMSELF, not the league.

And once again, what Tmac said was ignorant, but not a big deal.

BTW what does me signing up last month have to do with anything? I didn't sign up because of Yao Ming. I didn't sign up for Tmac. I signed up because i am a Rockets fan and have been one the day i was born.

And were you attempting to call me a "sHmuck"? Don't hurt yourself trying.

There goes that notion of T-mac having that brilliant IQ we keep hearing.

Sf3 was always being dissed of how stupid he was but he had the intelligence to keep his mouth shut if he ever harboured such thoughts
Even Kobe B visiting china to promote the league never said anything that stupid.

What a great impression and class act it is to go to a foreign country -in just a few days- to promote and market the league paid by the pockets of the NBA and dissing an entire country being a bunch of midgets.
If the comments are ture I would have expected it from maybe the Scaremento team but not ours.
It is the Rox that was chosen to go to China for a special reason and to have one of our keys players making such remarks

David Stern must be real happy now.

You know what, I agreed with you that it was a ignorant thing to say. But since you are blowing it so much out of proportion, i'm gonna back Tmac up.

Tmac is what, 6'8, 6'9? The average height in China is what... 5'7, 5'8? So he is calling people a foot shorter than him.....short. Wow what a revelation!

There is nothing wrong with what he said. And if your still insecure about it....put on some damn heels or something.

T-mac is just telling the truth :D of course there's always exceptions... but anyway, t-mac clearly didn't mean it as an insult. Relax, breathe in and breathe out.

Do you know what a stereotype is? Smuck

if the situations are reversed the

NBA is actually a chinese league and came to the states and played a hyped game to market basketball to Americans

and somebody on the team said

" Jeez i sure like to go to america and see all those fat people chugging down their food."

I wondor what Americans would say? I sure like you to take my $$s and pls call us fatties while your here.

thank you very much and come again!!

    What would Americans say?

They would laugh it off. Texas is known to be the fattest state in America. Who the F cares.

We are not insecure. If people called texans fat, har har har, we would go with it. Its no big deal.

You on the other hand... "omg omg, he called me short! Sure im 4 foot 3, but he's being stereotypical!" Man go buy some platforms or something.

Get a life. Respect yourself. Who cares what other people say. Tmac called you short. Cry me a river. Guess what, he is 2 feet taller than you, he has a right to call you short.

"Smuck" is not a word. Stop making yourself look like an ass.
