Kinda...it's actually NWA, to be more precise. Rage does a pretty good cover version of it, though.... (oops, just saw someone else posted the same thing i did. But i stick by my *rage* statement! )
Actually, my low view of many police officers came directly from when I did need help and said police officers refused to even consider enforcing the laws we have on the books in the State of Texas. So, no I don't thank gawd that an officer is around when I need help because, based on my past experience, I know the officer is likely going to ignore whatever transgressions are made. The police are apparently under no obligation to enforce the law and, at least in my experience, will choose not to enforce the law at all (oh, and the Dallas Police has that nasty habit of arresting people for things that aren't even against the law. Ironic that the police often refuse to arrest people who actually break the law and then turn around and arrest people who have committed no crime.... and that whole fake drugs thing is a good bit unsettling, too). I don't think I'd ever call them "coppers", though. Too Edward G. Robinson for my tastes. But I know I can't count on the police to save me from anything (except pool chalk, perhaps).
Shows what I know about rap music. But hey, if there are any Lyle Lovett songs that need identifying, I'm your man.
I've had the opportunity to meet and work with more than a few police officers. Are they tough? Damn right. Are they assholes? Well, I assume some are just like there are assholes in all walks of life though the one's I've met are as nice as can be. Some of the biggest, baddest looking guys I've met are some of the coolest people. If the guy is guilty, he should be punished severly because this not only is an abuse of power but it diminishes the really brutal job these guys have in the eyes of the public they are protecting and that isn't good for anyone. The last thing we need is a more acrimonious relationship between police officers and members of any community. BTW: My guess is that white, black, brown, pink, blue or purple, this is mostly an adrenaline and testosterone thing rather than a race thing. I wouldn't condone it, but it is understandable. You put these guys in dangerous situations on a daily basis and then expect them to behave rationally in high-pressure situations. It's tough. That's why those who can't handle it need to be weeded out so that this doesn't happen.
Children, further proof that ignorance is not always bliss. First off, you don't have ONE clue on what even happened here. You hear what THEY want you to hear. Black-Teenager-Handicapped. For all you know, he could have raped and killed a 6 year old girl. People like you are the reason why we will always have race issues. You see 'black, white, punch' and throw racism all over it. I don't think I will comment on your extremely shallow comment on Republicans.
Being a cop is one of those few careers in that everyday is a life risk. And because there are some public distrust in uniformed people who are allowed to carry guns, they're going to form that bond with other cops. Cops on the majority are just trying to do their job, but their code of silence, "the thin blue line", lets the bad cops get away with their crimes. It's like a fraternity among cops that whatever happens "within the family" stays within the family. Whistle blowers are usually threatened with their lives as well as their family's. And with all the resources the police has, anyone will take those threats seriously. We're mostly going to hear some big injustice is when someone videotapes the hard evidence or when a dirty cop rats out all the other dirty cops to plea for a reduced sentence, such as that Rampart scandal in LA.
rape and kill a 6 year old. hahaha lets just make things up now. i agree with jeff. more about agression and being tough than race.
Right on the spot, Jeff... how tough it must be to just turn it off when you have just been in a skirmish that may have meant your life? You never know when someone has a gun hidden or a knife ready to plunge into your liver. I don't applaud these abuses, but I think that cops deserve much more understanding than they get. These guys are not robots; they are men and women with lovers and families who put themselves at risk every time they don a uniform. Rarely is it criminal it seems to me. If baseball and hockey players' brawling is tolerated as part of the profession, why aren't cops given the same latitude? I know that their combatants are not cops but they most certainly are law-breakers (outlaws, maybe?) I know it is a much more dangerous proposition, but so are the stakes for the cops. The New York case was just sadistic criminality, but this one here is in the heat of battle-- in broad daylight in full view of witnesses. Same thing with Rodney King-- that one was over the top moreso than this event with the 16YO but (I've forgotten the details) wasn't there a death-defying high-speed chase involving the PCP-enhanced King? Mr. Paige: What happened with you and the Dallas police?
Its strange how a group of men who are most likely nice normal guys doing there job snap and take their retaliation to the extreme. These scenes of cops endlessly beating people just defies any sense of logic. No matter how mad you are, when you've beaten someone until their limp you understand its time to stop. These police who keep getting videotaped are obviously the slim minority, but thats what you see on the news over and over. I've met alot of cops not always under the best circumstances -- i've been treated good and bad, but never have I worried that I was going to be beaten. I think what starts it off is you get a cop in a tough neighborhood who's stressed and he takes what the "criminal" does personally. You can picture how the anger would build as you chase someone around a neighborhood or a city in a car. By the time they catch the guy their boiling mad. The New York cop was obviously an insane criminal- his fellow officers that covered for him was what got to me--alot of cops wanted to come forward intially, but were to afraid of retaliation. At least the truth finally came out- Police are with out a doubt our friends, but every once in a while you catch a bad one that just makes you hate all cops. (ie) Traffic stop: we're gunna search your car for illegal narcotics I think I smelled some drugs in there...(Cop makes fake story up to do whatever he wants) happens all the time.
giddyup - your comparing fighting in sports to what happened with the police? No comparison, I dont think the kid who is getting his butt kicked is getting paid for his participation, at least not yet. Who cares if it`s in the heat of the battle or in broad daylight, they were wrong and should be prosecuted. There`s no place for cops who take the law into their own hands.
rockss; I know that the analogy is not exactly balanced and I think I adequately apologized for that. I like the old concept of the Outlaw (meaning literally "outside" of the protection of the law). Is that not an equalizer for the cops-- within limits? Pounding a guy a few times because he led you on a high-speed chase which endangered your life and the life of innocent civilians in order to avoid some mis-demeanor offense is a real pisser! I just don't know how much we can ask of cops. They aren't saints. They are men and women doing a dangerous job which can erupt into a life and death situation at any moment. The kid didn't get his butt kicked. I believe he got slammed on top of the car ONCE and got punched in the face ONCE. Reginald Denny got his BUTT KICKED....
Cops . . . SHOULD and ARE held to a higher standard. If they cannot uphold the standard. . .THen they need to be let go. WE, Joe Public, Are allowed to blow our top . .. to get stressed . . .to LOSE IT. . . but IT IS THEIR JOB TO KEEP COOL HEADS ABOUT THEMSELVES. A Mechanic leaves a screw in your car . . no biggie A Doctor leaves a sponge in you . . . well. . .there is an issue DIFFERENT HIGHER STANDARDS Cop's job is to PUT YOUR LIFE ON THE LINE while Maintaining a kewl head for them to say I did blah blah blah because my life was threaten is a bit of a . . uhm . . .cop out. IT'S THEIR JOB. They are suppose to know how to handle these situations better than u or I. That is why *I'm* not a cop. I know I'm a shoot 1st type of guy. I lack the skill set/temperment to be a cop . . . unfortunately so so FAR FAR too many police officers with badges today Rocket River "Every time i turn around I'm assuming the position . . . "
Police protect one another to the extreme--it takes something like the NY incident to get them to break ranks. Thats why they get away with so much- try to tell your side of the story cop A whacks ya in the jaw--when they ask why your jaw is crooked cop B is the witness- cop C took statements from bystanders -- their statements believe it or not fit cop A -- self defense or what ever they need. It takes a video to prove anything-- No tape for Rodney King we would have never even heard his name. R. River: That is why *I'm* not a cop. I know I'm a shoot 1st type of guy. The majority of Police are former military --gung ho types who are shoot first guys (that or baton/maglite first). Being a Cop is a power trip for some and they start to feel like citizens should yield to their every command if they don't its taken as a personal insult.
