Well, if you look at it objectively it can only be him or Nash! If you blame Dirk for being on a very good team, you can blame Nash as well, for his team is almost better than Dirks team. If you argue that the Suns aren`t a very good team with Nash out, while Dallas can still win, you mistake valuable with dependable (I hope those are the right words, sorry English ain`t my native language). Dirk is the best player on the best team in the NBA, he is consistent and led them to a record season. And: Nash has won the last two years, while his team didn`t achieve too much, Dirk has improved his team every year with a trip to the finals last year (which they would have won, if it weren`t for DWade).

So if Dirk wins it, I´ll be cool with it. He deserves it!

Numbers wise, I would think Dirk would have one of the worst "MVP" seasons in recent history.

Not to mention he would have the smallest "stones" of any MVP winner in recent memory.

Would be funny if the award were given to him during the GS series and Baron Davis pulled an Olajuwon/Robinson on him.

The only things I find consistent about Dirk is flopping/choking.

Nash would get the MVP without a doubt if he haven't gotten 2 already(and getting injured, ending up his team losing almost 4 game in a row). Some people just think giving nash MVP 3 in a row is somehow making him into a god.

But either one getting the MVP is still fine with me. If Dirk gets it, it's just gonna make watching him and his team choke much more entertaining.

You have a pretty bad memory.

Best player (by far) on the best team in the league. After starting 0-4, they were 66-12; that's amazing.

Consistent? So consistent in his choking? :D

I don't like this argument about what Dirk or Nash has done in the past years. It's 2007 MVP. Besides, the past 2 years, the Suns went to the NBA Western Conference finals -- is this what you mean by not achieving too much? And if you look at 2 years ago in 2005, who beat the Mavs in the playoffs?

Look at the season, not what has happened in the past 2 years. With that said, Dirk's probably going to win, but not for the reasons stated in your post.

Under 25 points per game, under 10 rebounds per game. Not too amazing in my book.

Well on the other hand, let`s take a look at Nash (and I love that guy): the whole Suns Offense is build around him and he gets the ball every time down the floor. His team is running and gunning, putting a lot of shots up, and since there are a lot of good players on his team, they make a lot of these shots. So getting a lot of assists and a lot of shots ain`t that hard on this team, especially if you touch the ball every time. True, his fg percentages are amazing, and his decisions are great as well. What isn`t great about him is his defense... I don`t know if I would go as far as calling him a defensive liability, but is defense is definetely not on par with his offense!

Dirks defense is pretty decent, and he aint putting up to big numbers in scoring, because he aint a ball hog and has great guys around him. Yup, he is chocking in crunch time, his biggest weakness, but it has gotten better (remember the game 7 win against the spurs?). I only learnt recently was flopping was... I`ve seen Harris flop a lot, I`ve seen Ginobili flop a lot, but I haven`t seen him flop (which doesn`t mean that he doesn`t do it, it just means I didn`t notice it). Here in Germany he is consideres a pretty fair player, that only complains if he has a reason to do so... no idea if that has changed, I don`t watch too many Mavs games.

All in all, it`s a close call between those 2. True, the MVP award is only for this season, but it doesn`t allways work that way. Remember Lord of the Rings and the Academy Awards... Thats something a lot of people will have in the back of their minds. So if either wins its ok with me, they both deserve it!

The Pistons had the best record last year and even contended with 70 wins at one point. There wasn't much hype for the best player on their team to be MVP, i think Chauncey Billups was leading candidate. Thus, it shouldn't be a criteria that teh best player on best team should be MVP. and for the record, i'm a mavs fan.

Nash is the MVP and T-mac is 2nd.

Dirk is just an overrated douche and nothing more than a jump shooter, the team was actually playing better with him OFF the court in game 1.

On the third slowest-paced team in the league. Those per-game numbers should be adjusted upwards.

If Dirk does win it, then I'm just glad that Nash didn't win it AGAIN, for the THIRD time in a row. Ironic how Nash was better this year than in his two actual "MVP" seasons.

Don't they award the MVP trophy in the second round?

Hehe, Dirk is going to have some trouble getting there.

    WOW Big Freaken Deal !!!

It's "special" only because he reached all the whole numbers.

Drazen Petrovic shot 52%, 45% 3pt, 87% FT and 20+ ppg. Who shot better ???
Was Drazen anywhere near MVP ?

The only thing Dirk can do is score and he scores less than 25. He's nowhere near Larry Bird and he's no MVP.

I am happy to see Dirk choke again in the playoff.

Stephen Jackson overplayed him in the last two games. :D
