I hate to post this around the same time as Kelly's post about tivo, but I'm in trouble. Comcast and Altitude Sports (the channel for hte Nugs & Avs) still haven't agreed on a deal. I NEED my Nugs. Anyone have DirecTV or Dish? Thoughts? One over the other? Anything I should know?

I have Dish partly because my apt. has it built in, but also because they offer the free DVR with all new subscribers.

DirecTV (which I had 3 years ago) also has the DVR option, but you actually have to pay for the box (its not much... but it is $$ vs. free).

Has far as programming options go, both have LP, MLB, Hockey, etc... but only DirecTV has NFL Sunday Ticket (which is enough for most people to choose it).

I also know that DirecTV had a promotion where you'd get 4 free months if you signed up with them and bought NFL sunday Ticket (which if you're a football fan is well worth it).

I've got DirecTV, mainly because of NFL Sunday Ticket. If you want Sunday ticket, get DirecTV. If you don't care about that, then go with the cheaper option.

Sunday Ticket isn't a big deal to me. I'm a football fan, but I get all the BRoncos games here which is the only thing I REALLY care about. Nowhere near as big an NFL fan as NBA.

Ultimately, I'm hoping Comcast gets a deal done soon.

    something to consider:

the DVR that comes with Direct TV has 2 tuners. which means that you can watch one channel while recording another. the Dish Network DVR doesnt have this option, unless you throw down a couple hundred dollars to get the one that does...

Actually, that's wrong... the Dish Netowrk PVR 522 has two tuners, and is being offered FREE with any new installation.

You actually have to pay money to get the DirecTV DVR, not the Dish Network one.

^they must have changed it recently. at the time i got mine (6 months ago), Dish Network wasnt offering the DVR 522 for free. you had to pay for the one with two tuners. when i got mine, they were offering the DVR 510, which only has 1 tuner.

and i recall a friend telling me that she ordered from Direct TV and received a DVR with 2 tuners for free

Looks like it's moot. Rumor going around now is that Comcast and Altitude will announce it Friday and start broadcasting immediately.

    Thanks anyway everyone.

New Subscribers can get a lot of goodies. Free 30-hour DVRs, sometimes two of them are very common.

Incidentally, for the TiVo software alone, DirecTV is the better option :)

ive had directv for about a year w/league pass.

i have cable internet and about two months ago thought ide save some money by ditching satellite and getting cable tv (a comcast combo deal that would save me about $35). when i called to cancel they ended up giving me $20 off league pass ($109), all the HBOs and showtimes, and all the local channels AND knocked $10 off my bill. so i'm happy.
