So I'm thinking about getting DirecTV at my new apt. Does anyone here use them? I'm thinking about getting the NFL Sunday Ticket and thats the only way to do it.

I also thought about getting the sports package in order to get FSSW. I don't really like the channel because a few years back they seemed to focus on the dallas area too much. Plus the package doesn't show FS Houston.

For those of you that have it, do you know anything about routing the signal? I've heard from a couple of people that there's a way when you set it up to get local channels from another city. It had something to do with asking to use a Houston address on the install. If thats the case, I could be getting H-Town channels out here in SoCal and wouldn't need the Sunday Ticket.

If any of you can confirm this that would be great.

I have heard similar setups but none that I can actually verify. I use DirecTV and I get my locals filtered in from NY but at no charge.

I have DirecTv and loved it up until recently. Now it is out half the time. Sunday Ticket is definitely worth it though if you have the money. I had it one year and loved it when I was actually home to watch it.

The sports package isn't worth $10/month unless you want NBATV. The different Fox Sports channels were either showing the same thing my region one was, or it was blacked out for the most part.

Overall I love DirecTV, but ... while the football ticket is awesome, if you have one of those big & beautiful high def TV's as I do, you will NOT get to see those games in high-def with the standard gameday ticket.

They bilk you out of ANOTHER hundred dollars by making you subscribe to their stupid "SUPERFAN" upgrade. BOO!

All a buncha bullstank when the NFL ticket is already approaching $300 a season.

You can lobby and get Superfan for free, or so I have been told and read.

Haha ... did that LAST YEAR, but it was genuine rage. Bought a TV specifically for seeing games in high-def & had no idea that there was a catch. Found out on game one week one. I called & b****ed, & they gave me SUPERFAN for free, those fools.

They obviously must get that a LOT! They didn't put up any kind of fight.

Not sure if I can build up that kind of intensity again this year, & if they'll buy it. It's already showing up on the bill. Payments of $19 something.

That's another thing: Make sure you cancel stuff WAY in advance or they'll get you ... even in the off-season.

Do you know anyone in your family that has DirecTV in Houston. All you would have to do is get them to order an extra receiver, pay the extra 5 or 10 dollars a month and ship it to you. You would have to get your own antennae installed though.

I'd make sure you do the refer a friend offer if you do go with DirecTv. No reason to lose out on a $10/month credit for both you and somebody else.

So the referral is for $100 off of your bill not $100 cash?

I live in NYC and had DirecTV last season. It was worth it for me since I was able to watch the Texans games, though they disappointed. This season I'll have to find an alternative since the apt building I moved into didn't allow a satellite dish (only common space available was blocked to the South). Does anyone know of any alternatives to follow the Texans games from out of state? I looked into NFL GamePass to listen to them, but I may have to find a bar that has DirecTV in the area. Tough being a Texans fan in NYC.

You get $10 off of your bill for 10 straight months. It takes a couple of months to show up. My Father-in-law used me, and last month was my first credit. I expected a credit, but I thought it would be the full $100 at once. I was wrong.

Yeah that is garbage they nickel and dime you with that Superfan BS. Its already pricey. If I end up getting that package, I'll talk to them and try to get Superfan for free.

As for the sports package, I'm not in Houston, I'm in San Diego. I don't think I know anyone at home with DirecTV. My buddy said all they need is a Houston address to do it.

 I thought you auto-magically get Fox Sports Regional (Houston) channels when you get the Sunday Ticket. I had that same package for a couple years and didn't have to pay extra for FSW.

Well.... Dish has better receivers... more programming (more channels) to offer.... more HD.... pricing is about the same as DirecTV... therefore Dish wins out... I knew someone that had DirecTV... went to their house all the time.... I can tell you... there's way more selection with Dish... obviously the basic cable channels will be there with both... If you're not worried about the channels (just want basic channels) then consider the receivers... top of the line and award winning... if you don't care about any of that, then well.. you can choose either one... prices aren't much different on either side... I've been a Dish Network customer for almost 13 years now.. (when Dish first came out)... best experience you can have with television.

I just ended my time with Dish and they were good.....when I has a signal. It was garbage about once or twice a month when I had to acquire the signal again, then had channels missing when it came up. The customer service was an absolute joke, though that may be more on the middle man company I went through. Thats just my experience though.

Well... usually reception problems are only on really rainy days... real cloudy/rainy days with huge severe storms... normal rain usually doesn't cause issues... if you lost reception just like that... your equipment must be bad... or something like a tree or something may be coming in the way from time to time... but it shouldn't go out like that as much as it did for you.
