For anyone with a direct tv system . My wife and i are moving into a house that has a direct tv system installed. I am trying to decide what package to get. The cable company that serices the area does not carry KNWS or UPN20 so i cannot get the Rockets or Astros away games from them. I was thinking about adding the sports package for $10 but i do not know if that will help. My brother has it and told me he did not like it because he did not get very many of the away games on the other regional fox channels and that they always showed the same programs just at different times. If anyone has this package please let me know if you get Rocket or Astro away games from the different FS net stations and if so how many.

    Thanks
    CK

True, you don't get local "local" channels. You only actually get the Major Networks and it is an extra 4.95 a month. So you would need an antenna for UPN 20, WB 39, etc...

With the $10 Fox Sports Package you get Home games on Fox Sports SW, but any away games, unless on TNT or TBS are not available except with an antenna. I do believe, you get the ESPN games when the 'stros are away and on ESPN... (i think)

The other games that are in the program guide are on the Fox Sports Networks and are part of the NBA League Pass and the MLB subscription. In other words, they are blacked out.

I have the package you mentioned in your post and away games are not viewable in the Houston area. You will need an antenna.

Still... I'd rather use an antenna and pay the extra $$ than give money to TIME AOL/WARNER CABLE CO.....

Actually i live outside the houston area so an antenna won't help me either. I guess the only way to get the away games is to but the league pass crap and i don't think my wife will let me spend that much. Thanks for the input though.

ok.. if you live outside of houston, the league pass probably would be your best bet for Rockets games... they don't get blacked out.. i believe... but then again, the subscription is not cheap.

Castor27, does your cable company carry UPN from another city?

If not, I would call up to complain. UPN is a national network.

You could also try a roof mounted antenna if you live close enough to the Houston area. I remember picking up stations from Austin, Beaumont, Bryan, and Victoria as a kid...worked only early in the morning or late at night.
