Did you know that Rafer Alston has a higher 3pt% (37.3) then Ray Allen (37.2), Chauncey Billups (36.7), TMac (33.9) and Hedo Turkoglu (37.1)? I'm waiting for there fans to "cringe", which is what some fans here have described the look on their faces when Rafer shoots 3s, when those guys go up for a 3. Rafer's shooting from the field still stinks overall, but 37.3% from behind the arc is pretty good. I hope people stop saying can't shoot at all. He's not the best in the world but 37.3% isn't anything to be embarrassed about from behind the arc.
*i am a long time Rafer supporter since he is from my high school* i know he worked on his 3-pointer all summer long...so we were NOT complaining about his 3-pointers...he was pretty clutch actually maybe this summer he needs to go back to rucker park to learn how to do a tear drop
Rafer gets absolutely wide open looks and his 3 pt percentage isn't anything to write home about. Do you honestly believe that Billups, Tmac, and Ray Allen are getting as good looks as Alston? Also, Rafer's has the WORST Fg % in the NBA overall. That doesn't make up for a slightly above avg. 3 pt %. But, I think Rafer would make a good backup PG, esp since we have the WORST backup PGs in the league.
Cool stat. Go Rafer! I support him. good things about Rafer: - his 3pt % - his handles - his passing to the post - frequently when T-Mac is the only guy hitting shots, he's the only other guy to step up - "he's a top 5 PG at running the break."
Can he dunk? As long as he never ever does the teardrop again and goes for a dunk instead, I'm ok with him.
I never said he was a better shooter then any of them but 37.3% is pretty good no matter if they are open or not. And the point of this thread wasn't to talk about his overall fg%.
do you see how difficult tmac's shots are from behind the arc? he's always shooting over somebody.....
I want TMac to but Rafer is pretty clutch. The point of this wasn't to bash TMac or any of those guys or to say that Rafer's a bette because of his percentage; it was just to show that Rafer isn't as bad of a 3 point shooter as a lot of people make him out to be.
i spend a lot of time in the game threads and it seems like whenever he misses a three countless people throw a hissy fit, even if he was wide open.
when he gets his feet set, rafer has a nice stroke. when rafer decides to take a 3 with 20 seconds left on the clock, not a good decision. in the playoffs, he's not going to see much space behind that arc, we'll see
When Rafer spots up for three and catches and shoots, he's fine. The problem is that he'll often pull-up for jumpers behind screens without initiating the offense. Those are very low percentage shots for him, and the defense is basically baiting him to take those shots. And the less we talk about Rafer's teardrops, the better.
I think that in the playoffs he'll see even more open looks, especially with Yao coming back. Teams will be focused on double teaming Yao and TMac.
YUPPPPPP. The dreadful offensive rebound 3. when he misses the first time and deke gets the rebound you think to yourself "yeahhh. 2nd chance. oppurtunities....lets give it to our pg who will set up the offense and get the ball in tmacs hands"........but then before the time keeper can reset the shotclock to 24 seconds the ball has already left Rafer Alston's hands...I for one do not have a problem with an open three coming off offense. They're gonna let rafer have that shot, and he's gotta make it. i know he cant be steve nash, but ALL of his shots are wide open. he's gotta at least be 42, 43%....is that too much to ask? you cant compare his numbers to ray allens or tmacs numbers. their shots are usually contested and off balance
