A sick thought just crossed my mind. Toronto jerked us around and ruined our relationship with Mario Elie by pretending they were about to trade Stoudamire to us. Did we just return the favor? All these rumors of Mobley going to Toronto, complete with leaks to Clutch, the Toronto media, et al -- was it in part a nasty little set-up? (Let's posit hypothetically that some of it was genuine fear, and some of it was to convince the NBA we hadn't already cut a deal with Mobley.) By jerking around the Raptors' attention and their plans for distributing cap space, did we help queer their courtship of Croshere, Lewis, and others? Remember, Mobley wouldn't have to participate in or be aware of this scam. The Rockets could pull it off all by themselves. I don't quite believe it, but I'd love it if it were true.

I don't see where Toronto's interest in Mobley would have hindered their chances at Croshere or Lewis. Toronto has been pretty up front about the fact that Lewis and Croshere where higher on their wish list than Cuttino. Mobley was simply an alternative in case options 1 and 2 fell through. ------------------
