Yeah, I think the last 5 minutes of the last episode will be:

Deb will make the connection and then go to the cargo container and see that Dexter has put all his kill stuff in there. Fade to black.

I think Deb is going to find out who Trinity is (and thus talk to his family) so whether Dexter kills him or not may not matter. I don't see how the family doesn't somehow tell the police about Kyle Butler considering they saw him nearly stab Arthur to death in the kitchen. I guess they could still cover for Kyle Butler and not tell the police anything since Arthur is so evil to them. Hell, maybe the oldest son will kill Arthur before Dexter does and save him the trouble.

I think the writers will pull it off in the end I just don't know how. Very exciting.

Of course, before it fades to black she will say something stupid and crass like "oh f#ckity, f#ck, f#ck me"

    God, I hate her character.

Yea . .she is vastly irratating
and . . her revelations never come off as believable.

Because of the way she is written . . she does not come off as smart enough to be a detective.

Watching the last episode again with my dad a few hours ago, and now reading this thread has my thoughts all stirred up. I can't wait for the next episode

Did anyone else notice something strange about that last scene where Dexter tells his baby that no one is going to hurt him, specifically when Dexter says "especially me"...?

He looked away, almost as if he was pondering something...worrying about something. Are we to believe that Dexter fears becoming so much like Trinity that he would actually turn on his own family? He often mentions all the things they have in common (lost innocence, family as "human shields", dark passengers, etc.). Personally I can't see Dexter ever hurting his own family, especially not the one child that is actually his own.

Over the next season or two, do you think we will start to see Dexter slowly losing control over his dark passenger? Could that be how the show eventually ends?

Just a thought I wanted to throw out there.

Dexter was ready to frame (and/or kill?) Doakes in Season Two; no idea whom else he would hurt to save his own skin. I'm glad that the 11/22 episode showed his freakout at Trinity's thanksgiving dinner, reminds us that Dexter is, at his core, a genuinely sick and amoral human being who, without his morally and legally convenient profession, would be a bona-fide monster.

Either that or just finally getting caught. I'm assuming/hoping this thing ends with both Rita and Deb discovering he's a killer: along with Rita learning that Dex framed her husband, and Deb confirming more and more about her Dad's corruption. They'd both realize that the most important men/people in each of their lives - Dex, Rita's ex-husband and Deb's father - were all corrupt and weak.

Then, the writers flip a coin and decide whether Rita or Deb protects or prosecutes Dexter, which sets up a final conflict between the two ladies: where Dex's decision to turn himself in or keep killing mirrors his choosing between them. Maybe, just for the creative challenge, use Rita or Deb's own pain to turn one of them into a killer too, a la Miguel Prado.

Sorry to say, but Dexter is done. No way he gets out of all this mess without being exposed.

Nice episode... though how the writers took care of Christine feels like kind of a copout.

    ummm..how so?

This season will end with Dexter killing Trinity, but Deb is really close to finding a link between the Ice Truck Killer and Dexter. He won't be exposed this year.

I don't understand how that is a cop out. She was obviously not going to turn herself in and go to prison. I think it would have been interesting is she gave the real name of her father though. That would have messed up Dexters plans.

One thing is for sure, Dexter can't continuously keep juggling between husband, father, brother, and serial killer. A few of those labels will have to end in the next episode.

Well, they had him basically wiggle around and break a creaky chair last year, all the while his inner monologue was talking about "human instinct;" so they can just wrap this up as sloppily this year and no one will care. Nor should they: broadcast television is all crap now; until decency standards change the only place for honest-to-goodness escapism is premium cable.

It seems strange that she didn't even react to being told of the fake Trinity name.

    "Hello Dexter Morgan"

    Oh SNAP.

This has been such a good season. Much better than last year's.

I'm struggling see how this whole Batista LaGuerta thing becomes relevant. I'm assuming it's going to mean something in the end. Either that or the writers are just adding filler.

I'm more inclined to believe this. Ultimately, the series is going end totally demonizing Dexter. They have put a lot of effort into making dexter a charismatic, conflicting character, but has also built up characters specifically to be good (Deborah, Rita + Family).

They added the dynamic of "how will he get caught" what are the implications of him getting caught: We're going to ultimately have to deal with what happens when we have to choose between Dexter (who we'll understand is truly a monster) and his family (who is truly good).

Just finished the latest episode. Very, very good.

It's going to be very interesting to see how Dexter gets out of this situation, but we know he will. The show is as successful now as it's ever been, and they're already signed on for at least one more season. I think this season's finale will leave a big chink in Dexter's armor, though. Perhaps someone close to him finds out who he really is, or finds a clue that will eventually lead them to that conclusion. But I just don't see him getting away squeaky clean this time.

I'll tell you one thing. He better have learned his lesson that you've got to kill these mf'ers when you have the chance.

Yeh I agree. It will probably be Deb, I know the show went away from the books after season 1 but she is the one who knows in them and is the logical person to have. He is her only family, as far as we know she has no friends so she would likely protect him.

She did react. I read it as a kind of unsurprised surprise that she didn't even know his real name. In other words, she believed that they had discovered his real name and she only knew him by a fake one. Did she ever use his name in any scene? For all we know, she didn't know him as Arthur because odds are he has changed his name a few times in his life (although not since having his current family).

I bet they're setting up Deb to be the hero in the end - she'll either kill dexter to spare his family or put him away.

Dexter is conflicted between family and killing (his evil) whereas Deb will be the opposite, conflicted between family and the law (her goodness).
