Dexter has Trinity's family in the palm of his hand. Once he contacts them and tells them the truth (and gives them all the money he recovered), they will be beyond thankful and more than happy to forget that "Kyle Butler" ever existed a far as the police/FBI are concerned. It's the least they could do, especially once they know that their monster of a husband/father just murdered Kyle's wife.

Seems like an obvious solution to me.

Patrick Duffy didn't really die in Dallas. The whole season was a dream.

Was it ever explained why Trinity purposely bumped into Lundy? It seemed like he was trying to lure him into a trap, but I don't remember it being explained.

I dont think it was a trap but probably more of a 'taunt' move if anything

If that's all it was, it seems pretty sloppy on his part.

I took it as his cockyness, he bumped directly into him to get a close look at him and see any reaction if Lundy would have noticed him. At that point Arthur wasnt interested in him anymore, but the writers threw it in there to lead us to believe Arthur was involved in the shootings later.

I'm not sure if anyone's confused on this, but I'll put what I believe to be the sequence of events for my own edification.

1.) Rita leaves house in Cab

2.) Dexter leaves house to go to body shop to either get in the trunk or wait for Arthur to show up so he can follow him. (Note: I think Dexter being in the trunk is the most likely scenario, because it would also explain why he didn't get Rita's cell phone call since he would have turned it off).

3.) After Dexter has left, Trinity arrives to stalk Dexter's home

    4.) Rita returns from airport

    5.) Lots of blood

6.) Trinity goes to pick up car and get out of town.

This would serve to show really how vengeful and unpredictable Trinity was. I think there is still the possibility that Arthur had nothing to do with the killing. As some have already mentioned it did not perfectly fit the pattern, and throughout the season there has been hints that Arthur does not kill outside of his ritual (the deer incident for instance) or for pleasure. Then again, he also demonstrated a huge temper and even violence at times especially with regards to his family. Dexter stealing all of his money would have definitely set off his temper.

I still never quite figured Trinity's character out, and I guess that's intentional by the writers. We still don't know the story behind his other daughter. Plus, they made Arthur's sister's death very vague. Dexter made some comment about it being a suicide, but Arthur described it as an accident. The way Arthur conducts the killing in the bath almost seems like there may have been some sort of incestuous relationship going on. The writers definitely allow the viewers to use their imagination, which is one reason I love the show so much.

yeah arthur seems to rarely kill out of his ritual the deer thing could have been a front but the quick temper with his family looked to be real. remember he broke his sons thumb when they were watching the football game.

could he have found dexter's place though? it looked like all official public records had dexter's old apt.

everything though about trinity though made me feel that he was more of a coward than anything...even after he found dexter his first plan was to run away and after dexter almost got to him at the bank he still wanted to run away instead of confront dexter

makes me believe that someone else who knows about dexter did this to hopefully further frame the trinity killer. maybe its someone who just doesnt like dexter? Quinn? he would be too simple i think, but he would know about the trinity killings and he may have seen trinity and dexter confront each other at the station as dexter was leaving.

ugh man i wish i didnt have to wait like 10 months for the next new season

I mentioned this earlier in the week...its my longshot theory but considering the creepy scene in the jailhouse and Dexter losing it quite a bit throughout the season and primarly in the episode I belive Dexter might be developing an alter ego/personality. Kind of manifesting the dark passenger in reality and it was Dexter himself who took out Rita as a way to liberate himself from his family life and focus on killing. It would be a wild turn of events but it fits into the timeline established in the episode and could lead to the eventual turn into a villian by Dexter and Deb into the heroine to setup the potential clash to close the series.

I don't believe they'd make Dex the villain, they've made sure he's a likable character, however they could play it off as something he battles to take control of, as though he can't control his urge. But still that would really change everything about him, I think the writers did many things in the end to make sure the show can go in various directions. They probably haven't made up their minds themselves.....

Agreed. The writers just put them selves in the driver seat. They can take the audience on any kind of ride they want depending on which direction they take.

Another angle to think about is how things have come full circle. His child has now be "born in blood" like he was. I think he is going to make it his life's goal to teach his son The Code like Harry did for him. I expect the other two kids will be out of the picture from now regardless of what happens.

Didn't it fit the pattern? He kidnapped and tried to kill the kid, then killed Rita.

He also killed the real Kyle Butler, which was definitely not in his pattern.

the other females he killed in the tub were young single attractive women

rita though very attractive wasnt single and isnt as young as the others. Also she was a mother.

If rita was convinced into falling off a ledge then it would fit his killing methods more since that killing was symbolic of his mom's suicide

You didn't know that already? I guess I thought it was common knowledge to fans of the show.

Anyway, the only thing it changes for me is that I feel sorry for him when I see them on screen together. She is so...bleh.
