U.S. general: Detainees in Cuba treated fairly despite making threats

(CNN) -- A U.S. Marine Corps general said Wednesday that the al Qaeda and Taliban detainees at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, are being treated humanely despite the vows of some of them to kill an American before leaving.

"These are not nice people," said Brig. Gen. Michael Leonard. "Several have stated their intention to kill an American before they leave Guantanamo Bay."

Another 30 detainees arrived Wednesday at Guantanamo, where 50 others are being held.

Problem is, if they kill an American, they'll never make it off the island.

I really hate hearing about how they have terrible living conditions. They better be glad that they are living period. If it were up to me they wouldnt have made it past the crosshairs in my scope. Then they could b**** about how inhumane it is leaving their stank ass corpes in the middle of the desert. I would also tell them that if they killed an american that not only would that sack of **** be killed but everybody else would get a bullet too. Or maybe we should all watch Barney, hold hands, and sing What A Wonderful World.

I'm willing to bet that their living conditions in Cuba are one hell of alot better than their living conditions were in Afghanistan!

Absolutely. And I've been frequently lambasted on this board for it ;). However, I think the war on terrorism itself is a simple security matter. Other issues, such as our long-term policies in the region, can be addressed separately.

I might disagree with the US's relationship with Israel... but that doesn't mean I'm sympathetic with these homicidal crazies.

That's not acceptable. If you disagree with US policies, you're an un-American terrorist-sympathizer!

Anybody ever stop to think: Is it possible its not what we've done, but the scapegoating Arab governments have done to oppress their own people and cover up their corruption and mishandling of the vast wealth their oil reserves have generated? (Not you Treeman ;) )?

Wow, I thought I could be inflamatory, I cant wait to see what this post spawns. I am a ra ra go America person and more so than most but to say that you have to agree with every US policy is kinda extreme. I think that it is bull**** that we brought this on ourselves. Hell no. And it makes me sick to hear about that crap. There is not a country on this earth that does more for this world than the US. Bar none. We are the super power and we are a gracious nation. We are not perfect but there isnt a place on earth that is better. Actually I think we do too much and get involved too often. I dont agree with that US policy but I guarantee you that I am not an unamerican terrorist-sympathizer.

I'm tempted to let HayesStreet handle this round of "our foreign policy is responsible" jibber-jabber... :D

    I'll jump in if needed

As for the detainees, the most pleasant tidbit I've heard is that they're flying in female MPs to deal with them. Part of the psychological mindgames they've got planned for these guys...

These scumbags - who are basically of the mind that women are sex-slaves and baby-machines - have got an awful big surprise coming. Marine MPs - expecially the women - won't take any s*it. :D
