I was wondering the same thing. It wasn't 2 weeks ago everyone wanted to take Yao's trophy and give it to Dejuan Wagner.
In the game against Memphis Amare was totally off because Wright tried everything to get the rookie out of his game, he even threw a punch at Amare. Against Sacramento we were on back to backs and Webber is easily the best PF this year and a frontline of Webber/Divac/Clark was too much for Amare to handle in the game at Arco on back to backs. Joe Smith and Marc Jackson last night got most of their points on Scott Williams or Jake Voshkul , Amare can hardly guard the whole Minnesota Timberwolves frontcourt on his own. I can't believe you knock on Amare because they lost on back to back road games against a very good homecourt team like the Twolves with one of the premier defenders in the league and basically only lose because they missed 13 freethrows. Amare blocked Garnett's dunk attempt and then on the next possesion dunked right on Garnett and several Timberwolves. PS: Check who is #1 in the rookie standings right now , Amare. Plus he helped the Suns to a much better record in december than Yao has done with the Rockets. The reason why Yao wins all those polls is, that he is getting a ton of media hype already. How many articles did ESPN had on their frontpage about Yao?
This is a fan forum, not a cult, people are just being objective. If everyone who posts something on this sight said "the Rockets are great and thats it" it wouldn't be much of a forum. Next time why don't you chime in with your opinion instead of crying like a two year old that everyone isn't supporting the Rockets.

It's a bit funny but Amare's season is starting to shape up like Yao's. Since a poor game against Sac, Amare has averaged a double-double in the next six games. Similarly, Yao had a poor game against Sac but has averaged a double-double over the last 13 games. Both have had huge games to serve notice to the league: Amare's game vs. the T-Wolves and Yao's vs. the Mavericks. It will be interesting to see what Amare does now that defenses must focus on him. The kid's a freak as Jigger750 has mentioned and he could still put up numbers even though he's not polished (think Shaq in his rookie year). But, even if Amare puts up similar offensive numbers as Yao the rest of the way, his defense is nowhere near Yao nor his impact. The guy is the fourth option on the Suns team whereas Yao is at least the 2nd option. Besides, it's still too early to tell. At this time last year, Tinsley was annoited the ROY and then he hit the dreaded rookie wall. More likely, it will be Amare the high schooler hitting that wall. I hope that's not the case because it may give Yao a little extra motivation for the ROY.

Check out their stats for the month of December: Yao 33mpg 52FG% 10.4rpg 2.9bpg 17.1ppg Amare 34mpg 54FG% 9.8rpg 0.9bpg 15.6ppg Yes, the Suns in December are 11-5 while the Rox are 7-7. But Amare doesn't shoulder the same burden on the Suns as Yao does. Simply put, the Suns are a better team than the Rox not because of Amare but because of Marbury, Marion, Hardaway, and Amare.

The statistical difference is small. However Amare helped Phoenix to a much better record in december than Yao did with the Rockets. Also Amare does this after 2 years of highschool basketball while Yao plays pro basketball for years. That's even more impressive. Amare is showing dominance in the pait. BTW, Amare shot a better percentage....
The statistical difference, although small, is in YAO's favor. If amare dominates the paint, as you say, why does he ONLY AVERAGE LESS than 1 block a game? Amare has NOO defense. He got done by CWEB, Garnett last nite, and others, whereas YAO has not gotten done by neone. If the rockets had a consistent 3 such as marion with a good defensive presense, they would have done better... one of the reasons we lossed so much is cuz Rice has NO D... harpring and sprewell consistently burned us.... how about you give the suns rice, and give us marion, and then see who as the better record.... The suns record is not due solely to amare. Take away marion, and i GUARANTEE you that they dont play as well.
A) I've said I like Amare's game B) I've argued he is offensively and defensively very raw - a real good strong box out every time down the floor, and forcing him to take jumpers should get him off rythm. He will still get his, but not as much and sometimes not at all. Do you disagree? Do you think he is a good shooter, a polished post player? C) Amare's stats, overall, in December, and per 48 minutes are worse than Yao Ming's - Do you argue this? You seem very fixated on a one player is better than another, Amare is the bomb and there's nothing you can say that will change that, hehehe, :lol:, go Phoenix, yeah! type attitude. Nothing wrong with being a fan for your team, but seriously, defend Amare's game...his skills.
ANYWAYS. I want Yao Ming to become the Rookie of the Year. But it seems like most of you all don't want him too. You all are saying that Amare Stoudamire is better. And since I like slinslin's name for some reason and he is so annoying with Suns' pride, I am being fair. They both have a chance to be co-Rookies of the Year. But Amare has been doing a good job as well but he's not that consistent. Yao barely takes any shots and he's still scoring. Yao still had better stats than Amare in December. So I guess he is December's ROY. But lately, Yao has been scoring the same amount, but he has been rebounding much less. Yao has made a big impact on defense for the Rockets. WHAT HAPPENED TO DAJUAN WAGNER? AND DREW GOODEN?
