ok, let me start.....i dont like jvg but his defence is second to none.....i hate rafer but he came up big tonight....ok now that i have that out if the way we played GREAT tonight! i hate jvg on the offensive side but i love him on the defensive side......he is a good coach in every way except his offencive prowess....i love how he treats all players the same...but i hate his offence....jvg is a def. juggernaught but he needs a assistant coach who is a offensive mastermind....any thoughts?
JVG has the same basic offensive philosophy as Rudy T: Spacing, ball movement, know your personnel. The man's record speaks for itself.
I agree with that. The offensive execution of the 2 are more or less similary, just different in philosophy. Where Rudy T was more of a freewheeling kind of coach, JVG is more in your face, old school kind. He just demands better execution and better consistency from his guys in executing.
If you mean Rudy's teams during the champ years was the same, then yes. But Rudy's system overall? Nah, it was more open and really focused on isolations in many regards. But JVG's defense is incredible. We have little height, little quickness and little power, yet we're the No.1 defense in the league. Not too shabby.
We can not beat phoniex or dallas going 8 and 9 min without scoring like we use too.We need somebody to help jvg out or more firepower.
I hate JVG's offensive strategies. If he has any. If it weren't for Tmac and Yao creating on their own we would be hard pressed to score 60 points. That being said kudos to his defensive coaching. Yes you heard me right a noted JVG hater (most of that dislike is a result of his style and personality) is congratulating JVG on his defensive coaching. He deserves much credit for thoroughly destroying SA all year long... even the SA great comeback was superior defense for the Rockets until we got complacent in the end. So while the man not be my choice for coach he certainly deserves recognition for accomplishing dominance over SA a task not achieved since the championship years.
JVG always has his teams playing with energy and playing hard. Forget the offense...outside of set plays after stoppage of play and basic offensive stategy, offense comes from years of practice with the rim in your backyard. Sometimes your shot is off...but defense can be there every night. Last year when the whole damn team was out hurt...JVG had a lineup of rookies and scrubs. But the team was still one of the top defensive teams in the league. We lost so many games because it was the gang that couldn't shhot staight. I'm telling you there's nothing he can do about that. (well not much anyway). All you JVG haters...we can get a coach with an offensive style...hell Doug Moe was just sitting on the Denver bench. Hire him and we'll score 130 a night and be very entertaining. Only we'll allow 145 and be in the lottery every year. With JVG defense, we might not be as entertaining, but this is built to win a CHAMPIONSHIP. DEFENSE WINS. Boring and winning...that's the ticket!
I don't think that is a fair assesment considering we had big leads we coughed up with 1 or both of our main guys out in the last two game, if we were a complete team, Yao and T-mac, we would have won both games, IMHO
will people clarify when they say they hate his offensive strategy... are you anti pick and roll? anti spacing? i keep hearing these "his offense sucks" but i dont hear anything with detail. also consider the talent. outside of yao/tmac the team doesnt really have great scorers.
Per Donkey Magic: "will people clarify when they say they hate his offensive strategy... are you anti pick and roll? anti spacing? i keep hearing these "his offense sucks" but i dont hear anything with detail. also consider the talent. outside of yao/tmac the team doesnt really have great scorers." I find myself thinking that outside of Yao and Tracy-JVG has little to work with. He is doing the best with what he has. JVG should get an "attaboy" for winning these games with so little. Our defense went into lockdown mode at times last nite- SA is tough to defend- they come at you so many ways. Good job team
totally agree. i really would like to hear what people want done differently. the pick and roll is money, especially with tmac and yao. Sure its not fancy or original...but its effective and even the suns run a basic pick and roll to death. when yao is in the game he does limit (somewhat) what a team can do. Obviously you want him in the post and everyone else spreads the floor or cut to the basket (we saw this early in the year moreso than recently...of course)
Geez you JVG lovers want it all and you want it now. Did you not forget when JVG was running the show that first year with Tmac how we sucked. Then finally he had a meeting with Tmac and let him take over the show and we started winning again. Did you forget how he took away Yao's passing and creativity. Or let's talk about something more recently when the Rockets were getting destroyed by the Lakers and JVG threw in the towel and put the subs in giving only the order to play hard. And they proceeded to make a miracle comeback and the offense lloked better running freelance than it ever under JVG. It wasn't until he called a timeout and drew up a play that they went stagnate again. Yao and Tmac bail him out on offense and when they are gone we suck. But enough of that... this team is winning and winning against teams they haven't beaten in a long time and again I say he deserves kudos for that! Winning makes me overlook alot. Can't that be good enough for now.
Geez you JVG lovers want it all and you want it now. wow...jvg lover? b/c i was asking for someone who disagrees or has another view to express it intelligently my bad...jvg worships satan and punches pregnant teenagers in the stomach...happy? Can't that be good enough for now well im glad you had to go back 3 years for that 12 game sample. awesome and relevant. I also like how you, or i, have no idea what was being discussed in their meeting. I do remember hearing about it, but we dont know what the exact lines of communication were. but you prove my point. You dont really bring up anything in detail, just like i eluded to earlier. so work on a well thought out argument with some detail and then we can have a real conversation. (rather than just saying 'stagnant' or getting bailed out by tmac and yao...which, oddly enough, also plays into what was mentioned earlier, ie. how the rockets dont have great offensive weapons). so please.. relax, read calmy and talk rationally and with some specific points, rather than spew your personal hatred for a coach b/c he happens to eat kitten pies.
Rick Adelman as an assistant anyone?? Too bad there's sure to be some vacancies next year that he's probably anticipating already.
