Everyone always says David Robinson, is one of the league's good guys, one of the nice citizens. I guess they are right, but one thing that really makes me mad about Robinson, is that he never the Dream his due. Even after Hakeem torched him in '95, David's MVP year. Sure he said Hakeem played great, and all the normal lip service. But when asked about the great players in subsequent interviews over the years he rarely, if ever mentioned the Dream. Now Shaq, who isn't my favorite guy, at least gives Hakeem proper respect. Anyway all this was brought to my mind after watching some old tapes of that '95 Rockets, Spurs play off series. I guess it's pointless to bring up 6 year old grudges. heh. But even now after Robinson, rolled over and played dead during the Lakers series, I would be happy to hear him praise the dream like he should. ------------------
Well if I'm David Robinson, I would pay off some ESPN Classic guys to stop airing anything to do with the '95 series. Robinson, like Ewing, were basically put into their place. I remember how fans spent hours arguing over who was the best center until those two years of Hakeem's domainance. Then they went to straight to the who's second best. I really think Dream's a classy guy. When asked about his murderous campaign on Robinson, he replied by saying that "It's only a credit to him (Robinson)". Because only a player of that caliber could only bring out the best in him. I thought that was pretty nice way of putting it. ------------------
If this can make you happier, you can look up Robinson's quote on Hakeem in C.C. quote section. Basically he said Hakeem provided the best rivalry, competition and inspiration for him. Even though L.A. has something interesting now, it has alwayse been Hakeem. Well, he doesn't want to admit it, but he knows in his mind who is better. ------------------
Thanks KD, I don't know why that has always bugged me so much. I am at least partially appeased now. hehe ------------------
Well even though I am a Laker fan, I have to admit when the Dream was on top of his game there was no one better. I always loved the way he makd DRob look... well Foolish. ------------------
