Oh I have not started a thread in I dont know how long. I blame it on the fickle nature of "fans" in general.

however since it is the off season, and all I have to look forward to is Stern bribing the refs to make the Kings loose again in the playoffs I thought it time to bring up a hobby I enjoy

    Darts.

I have played since I was 18. that makes this my 10th year! holy crap I should be better than I am!
Anyhoo, I have had hand me down boards, and even have given my board to a bar so I could play at my favorite bar. I have however never bought a board. or well even set up a "sacred" corner of my house for darts.

well this is all a changing
I am almost done finishing off my basement complete with bigscreen TV, a bar with Kegerator, and a specially lighted dart area. and I just ordered my board. a Nadore President series. my nipples are hard. cant wait till im watching games while throwing darts and throwing back beers.

abut i guess i got distracted by myself.

anyone else here play?? is it as popular in the SW as it is here in the NE??
anyone have favorite games they would like to share

and lastly-off topic. anyone have a used kegerator that your wife wont let you have anymore and ya want to get rid of it? preferably with a tower so my bar will look complete

    PEACE

Do you have some special high quality darts or do you use the cheap plasic feathered darts that I've always used. I wonder why it seems everyone has a basement up north, and nobody has a basement down south. I want a basement.

    I love Darts:

Cricket, 501, 301, double in double out...oh boy, darts and beer.

Give me some good true 21's and we will go to town.

I love darts too....though I have to admit: I can play darts, shuffleboard, foosball, and air hockey ALL better than I can play pool.

I have several nice sets of darts...and I generally prefer a heavier dart....at least 23 gr. I also have a nodor....though just a basic one.

I've also got me a Tornado Tournament foosball table....just wish I had a better place for these things (other than my garage).

Is it a nice foosball table Pole? We have a good table at the office and I'm pretty good.

I prefer pool though - I'm planning on buying a table for the house we're moving into. That's going to be sweet.

You tell me (it's the cyclone II). It was the best one I could find when I bought it a few years back.

BTW: A LOT of my friends think that being good at foosball is impressive. I LOVE telling girls that come over to ask "do you want to play?" ummmm. no, I'm actually impressed that I suck at foosball.:D

When I was over in Scotland this summer I was watching a nationally televised darts tournament. The crowd really gets into it.

    Beer Darts Golf!!!

(some would argue that beer is redundant)

It's been 25 years since we made up the game in college, so I will do my best to remember the rules.

You play 18 holes. Players take turns on each hole, three darts a piece. For example, on the first hole, if you hit the big part of the 1 section, it is a par, the small part, a birdie, the double ring, an eagle, and the triple ring is a hole in one. Each player can stop at any time - your last dart thrown counts. If you end up outside the 1 section (including 19 or 20) it is a bogie. I don't remember what happened if you hit the bullseye (you probably had to chug), so make up your own rule.

High score on the hole chugged a beer (we used 8 oz. cups, professionals and Aussies can chug the whole beer). If two or more players tied for high score, you chugged two (or more) beers, based on the number of players tied.

If you hit another player with a dart (not uncommon on the back nine), you chugged.

There were many other rules infractions which involved the usual penalities, but I can't remember them.

And I lived to tell about it.

I kick ass at darts, but that has something to do with me once bartending at an Irish Pub. I prefer to throw my Hammerheads.
My wife is also deceptively good so we like to go to bars and kick random people's asses.

    Oh, Jeese

its like 4:30 am now, so well i just got home.

I kinda made a promnise a while back to not be a drunken poster. it had something to do with DrapedG and me being named the boards resident drunks :)

so, well maybe i am rekindling that name

ON TO SUBJECT AT HAND. witch i started :)

Cricket for points is my thing. it is the main bar game in the North East.

I have played enough darts that a game of 301 501 is not a problem till i am toasted.

DADA. I have always belived that we should hang. I only further belive this after your post.

I throw 24 gram metal tip narrow barrel darts. I hate spinners, and i hate hammerhead or any other active tip dart. it is cool if the board is really crappy to use a hammerhead, but honestly they feel weird to throw. and if you bounce you pretty much just need more practice, not a 90 dollar set of darts.

I am a traditionalist I guess, no floating head, no spinners life is good in a bristle board

    on to games

as i said, cricket for points is my game. first game for a drink. 2nd for money

i take a game to warm up, so its always 20 bones on the 2nd game. and it dosnt matter how many i have i stay good after that first.
PROBLEM. women distract me. so by the 4th game i am looking to score more than a trip 20 i generally get worse at that point.
we play till 4 am here if the females happen to be scarse, so in the winter i definately get my dart on

    Favorite game
and I mean it is the best ever
    Australian rules Cricket
    http://mostdartgames.com/austcric.html

this is a game for players with some skill. it sucks if the players cant hit crap.

my only change to this one is that when the batter hits anything inside the double band, those points are subtracted. and if the Bowler somehow ends up outside the tripple circle he losed a bull.

but you can also make rules for bounces too

beer is not invoilved. ok well it is always involved, but not in any official way. it is a given that you have a few pints with your darts.

I have also played a "golf" game wich involves hitting the OO of an 18 that lies well outside the regular scoring board, and such, but i casnnot recall the rules.

    my favorite darting years:

back in 1994 when i lived @ 1308 ocean road in Point Judith Rhode Island, I played cluse to 10 times a day, every day.
I had 5 male roomies and 1 female. we lived on the ocean in a college town that happened to be the #1 party school for 3 years in a row.

we were maniacks, and we were pigs

in order to figure out who cleaned the different parts of the housse we played darts.
    winner. well he draNK

    loser cleaned the "keg bathroom"
    2nd loser cleaned the kitchen
3rd loser cleaned the other bathroom
4th loser vacumed the house and cleande upo the empties(wich ment throwing them in the back yard)
winner just got the couch and well some beers

the girl was imune cus she was clean and a b****, but whatever

    ok i gotta sleep now

did i mention thas teveryone has a BASEMENT HERE??

    nmight night'
