Can we get Armstong now that they have signed Tyrone Lue? Does he make too much money for us? He has a decent shot and good ball handler, would be great off the bench.

I am kind of making this up, but I seem to recall Doc Rivers saying that Armstrong was the smartest player he had ever seen, both as a coach and a player.

Armstrong's not returning to the Magic, much to my dismay.

As a basketball fan who has watched Armstrong, can you provide your opinion of his strengths and weaknesses and what he would add to the Rockets if we acquire him?

DA wants to start. He wants Miami or GS or somewhere he'll get to be the 1.

Strengths: lays everything out on the court every single night. No player hustles more, diving for loose balls, coming up with steals, etc... like Armstrong. A definite fan-favorite. Great free throw shooter, decent long range shooter. Loves the stop-and-pop three and the stop-and-pop 15fter in transition.

Weaknesses: Age. He's 35 and it has slowed him down over the past couple of seasons. Ask him to do too much and he'll end up worn out and tired at the end of the season. Ask him to do too little and he'll be upset about his role, as he thinks he can still do more. Shooting percentage has gone down over the past few seasons.

Darrell's not really a "pure" point guard, he's more of a scoring point (but not combo) guard. I think his career high in assists is near 5 or 6 per game, and it's gone down since then. At his best, he was a 16ppg/6apg player. Now, he's more of a 10ppg/4apg type of player given the minutes, with the stats lower in fewer minutes.

He's looking for a place where he can play signficant minutes, whether or not it is a starting or backup job. Atlanta and Washington are interested; Cleveland was before they signed Ollie. My money's on Atlanta - he's from the southeast, they could use another PG at a cheap rate (i.e. not Moochie!), and Dickau and Diaw have a bit they could learn from him (not to mention Terry).

Didn't he say he was looking forward to playing less last year?

Oski - at the start of last year, yes.

Just recently, he said he was upset at his reduced role. Later in last season, similar statements were made...he felt he could offer more later in the year.

I posted a thread about htis yesterday and thought he would be a good backup but after reading his article, it clearly states he wants to be a starter somewhere and it looks like Washington and Atlanta are his 2 favorites. To go out on a limb, they also let go of Jacque Vaughn, is he any better than Moochie, here are the stats? I know he would be alot cheaper but maybe not any better. The way things are going we might be stuck with the Mooch!

    Moochie
Off Def Tot Ast TO Stl Blk PF PPG
    0.5 1.5 1.9 2.4 1.1 0.7 0.1 0.9 4.3

    Jacque
Off Def Tot Ast TO Stl Blk PF PPG
    0.3 1.1 1.5 2.9 1.2 0.8 0.0 2.1 5.9

He is similiar to mario elie--not position wise necessarily, but in HEART. He played alot of ball elsewhere before making it to the NBA. He works hard, and gives it up every night.

I heard there was a fight between ( I can't remember who but it was another NBA player and an NFL player ) and darrell was breaking it up. When the cop got in his face, he slapped (her I think) hand.

Both happened, but not at the same time. The latter was an hour or so after the former (a fight between Orlando's Drew Gooden and the Texans' Stacey Mack); he was trying to get a taxi, but it was full and he refused to get out of the road. The officer tried to grab him and pull him out of the road, but he pushed her hand away at that point.

Anyway, the Orlando Sentinel is reporting Tuesday that a sign and trade deal may go down, with Armstrong going to Washington and Lue to Orlando. That was, of course, before it was known that Arenas was going to sign the Wizards' offer, so those discussions may be moot at this point.

Edit: the article in question has been removed from the Sentinel's site, likely because of the recent developments regarding Arenas.
