http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dl...25/1004/SPORTS Quote: Austin Croshere's career with the Indiana Pacers appears to be over. The Pacers have agreed to trade Croshere to the Dallas Mavericks for guard Marquis Daniels, according to people with knowledge of the situation. The deal can't become official until July 12 when teams can complete trades and free agent signings. Croshere was the longest-tenured Pacer, spending nine seasons with the team. He became expandable with the addition of draftee Shawne Williams and with the Pacers trying to become more athletic. Croshere is also entering the final year of his contract. He averaged 7.5 points and 4.3 rebounds during his career with the Pacers.
That's wild. Should this concern us? Could this mean they intend to replace Daniels with Mike James? I know they were rumored to be offering Marquis Daniels in a sign and trade with Toronto for Mike James.
Crap. Cuban realizes he just saved a ton of money in this deal. Thus, no problem in offering more than 3 years at full MLE for James. We're going to need to up the ante to 5 years at full mle to get james. ugh.
Daniels was a Josh Howard - lite. He was good, but he didnt really bring in anything different off the bench. Crosher played very well when he started in the palce of O'Neal the last couple of years. In a system where he just has to hit open shots (something that Van Horn seemed to have problems with), he should probably fit right in.
I don't see why Toronto needs to resign Mike James so that they can trade for an expiring contract. The only way that makes sense is if the Mavericks are including a draft pick or two and Croshere is just a throw in to match salaries.
Well, we knew Dallas wanted Mike James. This only means that they no longer have Daniels to offer in a sign and trade (in which Toronto wasn't interested in the first place). Actually, I think it's an EXCELLENT move by the Mavericks. They get to dump the hefty contract they gave Marquis (which Cuban must realize was a mistake) in favor of an expiring contract. This will help the Mavs avoid paying TOO much luxury tax with the contracts/extensions of Dirk, Dampier, Terry and Howard. Croshere also happens to be a good fit in the Mavericks system. A good shooting PF who can also rebound the ball fairly well.
Hmm... Croshere is a nice little piece for the Mavs. Daniels has more general worth but Croshere brings an interesting aspect to the Mavs bench.
I think it is a good sign for us- Since Indiana Does not want any players back and the only one that Dallas had was Marquise Daniels. The question is If we get Mike James- who is our SG ? Apparently Bonzi , AL Harrington are the only big names on board. I just hope we get a Jumaine Jones as a part of what we are doing and get rid of Howard for D Miles +Gravy.
This is stupid. Daniels is far more valuable than Croshere, this really doen't make both teams any better. This just gives Dallas a reason not to re-sign Van Horn and gives Indiana a talented ptential filled gaurd. So now we know James isn't getting sign-traded (hopefully) to the Mavericks and now it comes down to the Mavericks, Rockets, and the Timberwolves. He'd start on the Timberwolves and Rockets. If he also wants to win it's either Dallas or Houston so I think this could be a good thing (hopefully)
As a Pacer fan I LOVE this trade. Only concern is whether Marquis can improve his jumper (24% from 3 for career).
Is there a time span you can trade a player once you just traded for him? Can the Mavs trade Croshere for James?
pg: tinsley, saras, johnson sg: s-jax, daniels, white(rookie) sf: granger, williams(rookie) pf: o'neal c: foster, harrison Looks like fred jones will be there for the taking.
I see your point but unless Daniels becomes consistent he will drive you mad. Both teams are getting rid of players they are disenchanted with. The Pacers dump Croshere for a player who (they think) will help them and the Mavs dump Daniels for an expiring contract. Maybe Croshere will play better since he's in a contract year.
croshere's heading into his 10th season. given his run of injuries i'd be surprised if he doesn't retire.
