I didn't get the opportunity to watch the game, but I listened to it on 950. From what it sounded like, Langhi really didn't do well in his few minutes. He didn't do much, but he passed up an open jumper and turned the ball over, according to Gene Peterson.

So here's my question, directed especially at those who lost the bet this summer, and those Langhi enthusiasts: Does Langhi have a place on this team, or the NBA? What kind of role can he fill?

I'm kindof perplexed -- he does SO WELL in the RMR, but then he just stinks it up on the actual NBA court. Why? Is he intimidated? Does he need consistent playing time, then he'll grow into his game? Is he just overmatched against NBA talent?

It seems that he is uncomfortable shooting without putting the ball on the floor first. He needs ISO's run for him and I don't see that happening in the NBA.

He also had 1 assist to make up for that 1 turnover.
    :)

I think Langhi just needs to get some damn PT. He barely gets to play at all and therefore 1.) when he gets out on the court, he isn't in any sort of rhythm 2.) he prolly tries too hard to play well b/c he knows that he might not see any PT for a while 3.) he's hesitant simply b/c he doesnt play much.

As far as him having a place on this team, I don't know. Even TMO is getting more consistent minutes than Langhi so that is definately not a good sign. I don't really think he will be on the team next year, but we'll see. HOpefully he can get some more PT and get more experienced, but if he doesn't I hope he finds a home somewhere with a coach that will play him. Damn u Rudy

He looked ok, he drove, dished out to Mobley for a 3 pointer, and got one rebound. He did get stripped by Sam Cassel for his turnover, but he only played 4 minutes.

Langhi can play, but I think Rudy got mad when he b****ed to the media, and Langhi is deep on the bench.

Langhi is a solid NBA player, but only in the right circumstance, maybe not with the Rockets, but he is probably a lot like Craig Ehlo, he did nothing here, then was a very good player elsewhere.

Let Langhi go if you aren't goint to use him. IMHO he is better then TMO, but that is only my opinion.

    man.......

I don't get the infatuation with Langhi. The guy is not NBA caliber. He needs a loooooong vacation in Europe. Tmo has MUCH more upside than Langhi, because Morris has good lateral movement. Langhi, in my opinion, is physically limited and will never be able to defend NBA frontcourt players.

    CMrockfan,

My point is that no one can really know until he gets minutes to prove either your point or mine.

Last year at the end, he produced some decent numbers, but this year he is buried on the bench.

I think TMO is also a solid player, but he simply can not shoot.

I don't think this can really be discussed without him getting any minutes.

I think we can discuss one point. Langhi does not move well laterally, and he does not possess adequate body control in relation to solid NBA pros.

Morris, on the other hand, has the athletic ability to block shots from the weak side and defend the perimeter.

Morris can learn to shoot well, while Langhi can't "learn" to be a good enough athlete. I hope we learned a lesson from not being patient with Avery Johnson and allow Morris to develop.

I think Langhi can move laterally ok, how can anyone tell, he simply has not played.

Langhi and TMo were both horrible. TMo's shots were all ugly and when Langhi was wide open he would'nt shot. Langhi has no future in the NBA.

And why can't this same theory be applied to Langhi?

Ah, here we go again - the whole "Langhi could be decent if he just got playing time" arguing. Having watched Langhi and having watched Morris, there's no question in my mind why Morris is getting the playing time. Simply put, Morris plays within his role. Morris knows he's not an offensive option so he takes the open shot when he gets it, consistently grabs rebounds, blocks shots and gets to the appropriate spot on the floor. He's no star but he contributes in every sense possible for a basketball player.

Langhi, on the other hand, tries to do more than he should. He's on the team to hit open Js, but instead tries to beat his man off the dribble. Not once has he succeeded, unless you count the summer league in 2000 (and it was against Harold Arceneaux - the Weber State Wonder who is not playing in the NBA right now). He's not a good rebounder, has a terrible time defending on the perimeter (I have never seen him successfully get around a pick) and never looks like he can figure out the appropriate spot on the floor. His assist to Mobley could easily have been a charge on his part because he backed into his defender while passing the ball. Fortunately, it didn't turn out that way, but on another night (and with a different set of referees), it might have been a turnover.

Morris is a smart baller. Langhi is a dumb shooter. Who would you put on the floor? Rudy T has made some questionable moves this year, but choosing Morris over Langhi is not one of them.

i think if he is on a team with lots of injuries and a team that lost 15 games in a row and he still cant get playing time that should say something about the amount of confidence the staff has in him..

I think the best thing for Dan is a trade. He needs a new start (as he requested) and we could be utilizing his spot on the roster. Someone who would be used in the paint , someone like Samuel Dalembert who went to Philly. He's getting the same PT as Dan and has no real offense, which Philly needs the most! Dalembert is a defensive specialist much like Cato. And as some of you have seen, we give up alot of points when he's out. They're both 6'11" just opposite types of games that the other team needs.

Yeah. I think we should trade him. We have no use for him, so we may as well trade him. It would be better for Dan to move on and go to a team were he might get some minutes.
