Jones looks to Pacific Northwest Damon Jones, the ex-Kings guard who had his best NBA season with Milwaukee last season, could be on the move. The free agent has said he could wind up in Seattle. He averaged seven points last season and had a superb 4.64-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio, second best in the league. http://www.sacbee.com/content/sports/story/10214018p-11134565c.html I wonder if the Rockets are still in the hunt for AD, this certainly makes our chances a whole lot better. Either way, I hope we get something done soon.
I still don't understand why Seattle doesn't want Antonio Daniels... Does anyone here know what they are saying about him?
Seattle believes that Luke Ridnour is ready to take over the PG duties, making Daniels available. However, I read that Luke got injured and hasn't been playing well during the summer league, I guess thats why they've been looking at Jones and Fisher.
That still does not explain why Seattle does not want AD. AD only makes about 2 million a year, does anyone think that Damon Jones would come much cheaper if in fact he comes any cheaper at all? Plus Seattle was trying to land Fisher earlier so what is up with AD?
It's because Daniels likes to slow the pace down while Seattle are tryign to run more. That suits us just fine.
And I guessing Seattle wants to get a back-up for Luke for a even cheaper rate then what Daniels makes, and not only they might get a cheaper back-up they trade D for our TE only makes it the deal more economically sound. Bottom like Seattle is trying to get the most of every buck they spend I hope Rockets can get Daniels and a back-up Center, and no use the MLE...I certainly dont expect much from the rockets next year, but I do except them to position themselves for key additions to make multiple title runs.
I don't think I truly agree with your statement Sane. If Seattle wants to get rid AD because he prefers a slower tempo, then why did Seattle persue DFish? DFish was all about the half-court when he was in LA-LA Land. P.S. - luv the signature -Simpsons Rool!
I'm sure the answer to this is somewhere but I can't find it. When was Damon Jones with us? Was it just camp, or did he ride the bench for a season? I know he pretty much sucked until last season, so maybe that's why I don't remember. I usually at least remember the names of all our players, even if they rode IR(or whatever it is called) the whole season. Thanks.
Seattle doesn't seem to be desperately trying to dump Daniels, if they were they would just take anything for him, cap space, draft picks, etc. And he played well for Seattle the 2nd half of the season. Who knows why Seattle wants to trade away Daniels, it was illogical for Seattle to sign him to begin with. Either way, Seattle pursuing Jones is good news for us when it comes to potentially acquiring Daniels. Fisher wasn't really a half-court PG. The Lakers just played a half-court game. The Lakers were at their best when they were a more open court team during their early championship years, and Fisher was the starting PG then. But, as the Lakers got older and slower, Fisher was forced to play a more slow down style. As a result his effectiveness dropped.
I think they are still trying to unload a center so Swift can get playing time from what I have read somewhere. So maybe AD is included to move Potepenko with his legal problems this summer. Who knows.
I really disagree. I have never seen anything to indicate that Fisher has the capabilities or desire to play an uptempo game. During their earlier championship years, the Lakers were better because Shaq was better. Also, during the 2nd championship run, Fisher had his best playoffs ever because he was hitting an incredible number of threes. His effectiveness dropped because he wasn't shooting as well, not because the Lakers suddenly played a slower tempo (which i don't think is true).
How about a four way deal where we send the TE exception to Seattle for one of their centers, plus AD? Seattle then uses the TE to get Swift from Memphis in a sign and trade. Memphis then uses the TE to get Dampier from Golden State in a sign and trade. Probably a couple more players or picks to fill in the blanks (Golden State needs to get some consideration for the deal), but that would be the general concept.
If Jones signs with Seattle, its pretty much a done deal that Houston gets AD in a trade for our trade exception...
on other basketball sites, there have been credible sources saying that this will be the case...im not making any promises but I think its a strong possibility...
Interesting idea but i'd have to pass. Potapenko and James aren't good enough in my opinion. Taylor, despite not fitting in well with this team, is still a pretty talented player and is a lot better than both of their current centers. I know we would be getting AD out of the deal but we would also be giving up our TE as well---the TE, if used, could be a relatively valuable asset down the line and all i'm saying is we give up that as well as Taylor to get an under achieving PG and some scrub center that Seattle doesn't even want all while making Memphis, a team in the same boat as us, a hell of a lot better? No thanks.
as long as we end up with either jones, AD, or james we will be ok. even if we have to settle for sura, ward, or even lindsey hunter, we will still be good. we have plenty of options. AD is our top choice, and we will pursue him until our choices run out a little more. then if we cant get him we grab who ever is still unsigned at bargain prices and call it a summer.
