OK. I Like Cat. I think he has a place here. 1. He works hard [this get no respect here. . . only the sexy P (POTENTIAL!!! GET YA MINDS OUT THE GUTTER)] 2. He *does* seem coachable. 3. He plays defense and can get better. 4. HE WANTS TO BE HERE What are his weaknesses? Shot Selection [Good coaching can correct] Passing [How many shooting guards Avg high Assists . . otherwise this ties in with shot Selection . . . passing when he don't have a shot] Defense - He is good but can be better [esp if he plays the lanes knowing Yao and Griff got his back. What else do you see his weakness [Please nothing so generic as the NEW catch phrase . .. basketball IQ ] If Cat correctsa those three weaknesses. . IMO . . he is all star material. Rocket River
I think with more rest .. . limited minutes. . his Defense could pick up some. I'd rather 25~30 minutes of hellish D. . .than 41 minutes of ok D Rocket River
A couple things about Cuttino that are unmistakeable.... 1) he is a true gamer....you have to admit that Steve and him do give it their all every minute on the court. 2) the defense is definitly there, and he has continued to improve it....did a great job on Kobe. 3) he takes a lot of shots, sure, but when he catches fire, it's over....a true shooter has to keep shooting. 4) Excellent free-throw shooter.
his ankles...see xcharged's post. imo, the key to maximizing cat is lowering his minutes during the regular season and telling him to step up the defense. Also I would constantly show him tape of his 3pt stroke and his off the dribble jumper. When he's slumping, you can see the problem. fix those and we have just want I want at SG with Yao and Kidd ( ). We can talk about his decision-making all we want, but I prefer not to beat my head, or Mobley's, against the wall. I'd rather take the path of least resistance and focus on defense and solid stroking with Cat. Also, Cat (like Shandon) will never be fully utilized with our lame fastbreak. We need to run. Cat is the best fastbreak finisher on the team. Posey's great from the wing, but Cat can also beat defenses down the middle of the break with that speed and those looong arms.
cuttino and stevie can be good guards if cuttno gets less min. while he rest (gettin rest will give him better D.)he needs to kno tht the ball must go throgh yao and then he can shoot D
You didn't even mention his biggest weakness, Selfishness. Something are incorrectable but I guess we will see. Hopefully, Gundy can change his ways.
his biggest weakness is tht he takes alot of shot tht he shoudnt be takin..and his selfness his at the end of the season he started lackin off by takin shot with goin through yao and perimeter..
The problem with Cuttino is that we will probably have a better SG next season (Steve Francis) and if not, then he doesn't complement our PG well AT ALL (also Steve Francis).
Cuttino's a good player, just as long as he's complementing somebody. He gets too much heat around here. I was going to wear a Mobley jersey on the first night of my honeymoon, but I didn't want to shoot too early...
Mobley was absolutely MAGNIFICENT in that game against Phoenix when he had 7 assists? He was working BEAUTIFULLY to connect Steve Francis and Yao Ming. He fit in like the last piece to the puzzle. After that, he decided that he had enough sub-18 shots games so he went on a shooting tear.
lmao A-Train!!! Mobley's a good player, and would be a great fit on this team if he would just understand that he's the third option, meaning he needs to take about 12 shots a game, play solid defense, and most importantly, give the damn ball to Yao.
Cuttino is a wannabe star. No coach can fix that. He needs to go to a bad team where he can showcase. He's not a complementary player - a player like Jon Berry or Matt Harpring or Lamar Odom. Cat wants to be the man. That's not going to work with Yao. Ever. In any role.
he tends to get a little too involved with officiating. but that's pretty much widespread in the league.
He did play too many minutes he played more minutes than Francis!! Im sorry but I know he is selfish but I would too if most of my teamates could make open shots! Sure Cat made bad decisions but how many times did he go to the FT and how many times did he go perfect!?
Vernon Maxwell wanted to the man. That worked. Sam Cassell wanted to be the man. no problem Van Exel wants to be the man. And it was working. Vinnie Johnson was one of the men as a starter before Dumars got there...no problem imo, if your shooting guard does not have the confidence to be the man, there's a problem. Come on, it's not going to be that hard to reign in Cuttino's shot selection. Certainly not as hard as Maxwell, Cassell and Van Exel. "no coach can fix that." pfft. what's with praising Brown and crying for Carlisle like coaches can fix everything, then saying even they can't control egos. pasox2, didn't you cry that Kenny was a wannabe star blackhole, then praise Brown for fixing him?
Cutino like Steve F need to concentrate on the mental aspects of the game. Cutino makes some pretty poor decisions during the course of a game. It usually costs us the close games which we had plenty of this yr. then again Posey is guilty of the same thing. He fouled when he shouldn't have. This will be solved with maturity and as the team grows.
Fine. If he's going to be here anyway... coach can help him with a few things : Hit the open shot without dribbling. Set a screen to free Francis Use a screen to shoot (w/o dribbling) Use your speed as a cutter, not on dribble penetration Move to clear out for teamates Learn the pick and roll. CM COULD be deadly here, w/ any F or C. Pass immediately after crossing 1/2 court. You'll get it back. Try to trust "precious" with your teammates. Stop. and Pop.
so you admit that his defense doesn't need coaching help, and it is ready to go. See, it is not too hard to praise Mobley, even if it took someone else to spot your praise through your lack of criticizing something. gotcha! pasox2 praised Mobley by default!
