The Knicks in 96 when they brought in Houston, Larry Johnson & Chris Childs were the last team to make a huge revamping like that. But it's probably the exception that proves the rule.
I have not yet begun to trade! If you prefer, I can certainly dump JJ, Boki, A Griff and Padgett, too. Look, there was absolutely nothing of value gained last season. Nothing. It was a total waste of time. There is no chemistry. Don't like trades ? A plane crash is the only other way to rebuild this team. They're not going to change who they are, they're not going to get any smarter, they're not going to stop making stupid mistakes and bad decisions, they're not going to presto! Get fundamentals. This is who they are. They don't play together so blow them up, the sooner the better. If anything, I'm more inclined to retain less than 3 players, after the cursed stain of the old way of losing has ruined them.
I love Wilcox, and would do that deal in a split second. Even though Wilcox's shooting isn't tremendous, he has the ability to take advantage of double teams on Yao the same way Malik Rose does - when he gets the ball, he explodes furiously to the basket and slams it down. It's absurd to think that, at this age, he won't improve his jumpshot. He's already got a good touch, great rebounder, NBA body, and 2 years of experience in the league. He might breakout at any time. However, that trade leaves us with 4 PF's - MoT, Wilcox, Cato, Weatehrspoon. If they need capsapce for Kobe, I would look at taking a re-signed Q Richardson straight up for the TE as well. But I really don't think they can get Kobe, so it's a moot point.
Kobe will stay in LA. I'm hearing it more and more. Q will leave. Besides, Cuttino is better than Q. They can get Cat for a year at 5.5 instead of offering Q whatever on a longer term deal. LAC can move a little closer to a respectable attack with the Cat. I don't like him with Yao, but he looks good with Brand and Mags.
I don't think Cat is better than Q. I think they're equal, but they bring different things to the table. Richarson is a shooter, more powerful, more athletic. Mobley is a better defender, better with the ball in his hands, and more experienced.
Cat had a higher FG%, higher 3pt%, and higher adjusted FG%. How exactly is Richardson a better shooter? In fact, it seems like the only thin Richardson is really better at is rebounding. People sure seem to put a lot of weight on rebounding guards around here.
It was implied when you listed shooter as one of Q's attributes and contrasted it with Mobley's defense and ball handling.
Cuttino's best attribute is his perimeter defense. He held Kobe to 38% shooting. Since the LA-HOU series, Kobe has shot 48%against the likes of Bruce Bowen and Trenton Hassell, regarded as some of the top defenders in the league. I think alot of people on this board underrate Cuttino's value in that respect.
Agreed. We don't give Cuttino enough credit for his defense, although I don't think ANYONE shoots as well against the Rockets as they do other teams. Yao Ming and Kelvin Cato go a long way in helping that, but ultimately, Mobley did a superb job.
I think I'd rather trade Francis for Wilcox and a boatload of other stuff (e.g., either Maggette or like the #6 pick plus Jaric, etc) than trade Cat for Wilcox. Francis is a much bigger star who would have a much greater impact elsewhere like with the Clips (thus worth much more in a trade), but I can't see a big advantage for the Rockets keeping him over Mobley when you consider Mobley is the much superior defender and just as good spot up shooter.
I've kind of been thinking the same thing. If this whole Tmac thing doesn't work out (sounds like a lot of posturing is going on), I think we can pull off something here. Maybe Steve for Maggette, Wilcox, and Jaric. Toss in a future first rounder if it's too lopsided. This deal would kind of remind me of the Jalen Rose for Artest, Miller, and Mercer deal a couple of years ago. We would be giving up the bigger talent to get a number of good pieces. Jaric Cat Maggette Wilcox Yao I can definitely see this becoming one of the top running teams in the league. Along with JVG's strong defensive scheme I think it could a big time contender with about two seasons of maturation.
I would do this trade. Q has a lot of interest in the free agent market, especially from Denver who has considerable cap room. If Denver offeres too much it might scare off sterling like how Miami got Odom. Considering Mobley is only around 5 mill per season I could see the clips replacing Q with him. Mobley brings good spot up shooting and perimter defense, but shooting guards are a dime a dozen. He can easily be replaced and I could see JJ doing better at the 2 instead of 3 since he isnt guarding people bigger then him. Mobley is a good player and underated, but we might get a long term solution at the 4 in return and that cant be ignored. When Brand was out for the beggining of the season it was wilcox who stepped up and played pretty well for them. Remember a bigman is always more valuable then a guard these days. We are pretty stacked at the 2 and 3 positions with pike, boki, agriff and jj. Its a risk im willing to take if wilcox pans out and becomes a good pf.
