Scola can be a center in a few minutes. We can't keep him who did the worst work in the preseason when we need a backup. It's passiveness for us.

There are very few days left for Butler to do anything. He can't rebound or defend. I say cut him.

I'll second and third that proposal. Butler doesn't have game and is just no where near the level of Mutombo or Scola. :p

Justin Reed has gotten minutes at center in Minnesota. I wonder if he'd be more effective than Butler there?

I agree. Butler is pretty much useless. worse than big Jake
If we need a 3rd string C along the way, we can easily trade for one. No need to waste a roster spot on him.

I would keep Reed before Butler. Butler is the kind of guy who just isn't dedicated enough to be an NBA player. He's too fat, disinterested and displays no energy on the floor. The guy isn't even a project and if the Rockets cut him, I bet no other NBA team picks him up. Maybe he gets a couple of 10 day contracts at best if someone suffers an injury.

    aka Battier Lite.

I was not impressed with Butler, but he did look less lost than the other game. My bet is that he (or Deke) will start the season on Inactive Reserve.

Butler is higher and stronger, but he just can't stop their scrub PF or C.

Anyone know where Butler lives? I think it'd make for a wise business decision to build a KFC across the street.

Size matters. Until someone better comes along, he has the physical tools. IMO, with a shot at playing time, his motivation will increase. Cut a little guy -- we have plenty of those.

Tough to cut someone that's owed over $4 million dollars. It's not the cash so much as the fact that he remains on the books (cap). Just try and bundle him into future trades if possible.

Hayes is just too small to log minutes at center. He's undersized enough at the 4. Scola is a legit option behind Yao. I think Deke won't be on the court much at all this season.

Only reason I would suggest keeping Butler around is as insurance if Yao breaks another bone in his feet.

Scola can take some minutes at center but he is NOT a backup center.

When your backup C is over 40 you have to have some insurance. I personally don't care for players with no passion but we don't have many options atm unless we can get dallas to trade us that Bass kid.
