I can curse like a mother-, er, a sailor... but I never do it unless I'm in company where it's acceptable. My Mama didn't raise me in a barn. Can't say that about some other folks though. Lately, it seems like I come across more and more people dropping the f-bomb and even the c-bomb in a restaurant, the store, and other places, often right in front of my kids. Today, the family drove in and met me for lunch at Quiznos (those flatbread salads are great) and we sit down at the only free table in the place. Right across from us is (I'm guessing) a mom and an angry daughter dressed in inappropriate clothing (certainly for her size) plus a son or boyfriend. The daughter type is just swearing up a storm about some drama that she's going through with her friends: "If she thinks that, then that b---h can f----- eat my p----. I've known her since we were kids and if she thinks she can f--- me over like that, I need to f--- up that b----." And so on. The other two are just nodding and eating through this rant. I offered a glare, which had no effect. I then politely said "Excuse me." which had no effect. I then said calmly, "Could you please watch your language." She responded with indignation, "This is who I am mother------!" As if I wanted to change from her true trailer park self to Cinderella. Anyway, she was a little nuts, but I have noticed more and more folks of all types cussing in public with no regard for others within hearing distance. Anyone else seeing this or am I just more attuned to it since I'm usually with kids?
My friends and I cuss in public, while eating at fast food restaurants and the like...but we try to keep it down, and when a friend of mine says something too loud without realizing it, I make it a point to tell them to keep it down. I take it that's rare though...most people my age probably don't give a damn at all.

Ugh. I hate people that cuss when there are kids around. And of course anyone that would do that is probably the type of person that would be mad if you asked them not to.
The more the words are used, the less they will shock anyone. Best to expose the kids to it while they are young. We need to get to a point where there are no words that cannot be used in public.
I notice it too. It soooo disturbing to me. Maybe cause I have 27 nieces and nephews, some of who love to tag along with me everywhere. I've always had a really dirty mouth, but never in front of kids. If you want to pollute you're children's minds and vocabularies with that, that's your right, but when it comes to other kids, please STFU. Yeah, I love explaining to my 9 year old niece why she can't say c*nt.
ill curse in public but only at a low whisper level, im not gonna be obnoxious and yell it out like lotta people do.
I don't have children, and it still bugs me, so I don't think it's strictly a parental issue. Depending on the state and/or county, public use of profanity can be considered a crime (disorderly conduct). However, I believe you would only have a case if the restaurant owner wanted to press charges. Complain to the manager, and I'll bet you they will tell the people to shut up or leave. I'm sure the owners don't want to start a big fuss and possible legal uproar over a bunch of human trash.
It is ok rimrocker. Explain to your kids that those potty mouths are the scum of the Earth and show them what they don't want to turn into. It's a win win.
