I had a good laugh watching NBC's Pacers/Spurs halftime feature tonight...they had a piece on Mavs owner Mark Cuban from the game today. They had mic on him during the game and focused on him. I thought he was gonna cry when Franchise nailed the door shut with the slam near the end. Having said that, I like the guys enthusiasm for the game. Old School ------------------ I voted YES!
I think Cuban, is pure greatness. He is living the Bachlor's dream. He's young in good shape and a multi-billionair with his own sports franchis. Definitely not your typical Billionair. I can't tell you how many times I wished I had my own sports franchise with a bottemless pit full of money! I hate owners that use money as an excuse not to put a competitive team on the floor. ------------------
I really like Cuban . . . he may be very boneheaded or "classless" at times, but regardless, it's good to see an owner with enthusiasm. He fell into a ton of money and is having fun, rather than caring so much about return on investment. It's really cool that he gets all into games and stuff, just like any other fan, rather than being one of those stuffy old guys who sits up in his private box. ------------------ "Any answer that can't be questioned is no answer at all. You know, I wouldn't even call it classless. Think about it... he's just doing what we would love to be doing. Jumping down officials' throats, making fun of Phil and the Fakers, responding on sportstalk.com's feedback, etc. Being a fan with authority and money is what he's doing and it's great to see. His team is what we wish our fantasy basketball leagues could be. His team IS his fantasy basketball team. The guy is a great person with a great personality. He'll walk up to anybody in the stadium and start a conversation with them. I love it! The last thing I want to see is the NBA be run by 80 year old cigar-smokin' high-brow aristrocrats. ------------------ "I give up. Oh my holy hell I give up." -- Clutch expresses utter frustration in encountering difficulties trying to communicate across a damn bbs. (It's even funnier if you picture Homer Simpson saying it)
OH CRAP!!! LOL!! I had a good laugh at this title!!! thx Old school. smiley. *bad mental picture* ------------------ snap crackle pop
I think Cuban is pretty good for the NBA. So who cares if he yells at refs and does some other wierd things. Mavs fans should be just happy because he tries to put the best product on the floor. He seems like a happy-go-lucky guy that would get along with anybody. He is not like that b*stard Daniel Snyder! ------------------ SUCK POLICE!!!!!! To point out individuals or teams that have managed to reach the pinnacle of SUCKINESS!!!!! ----- ROCKETS 4th quarter defense SUCKS. The offense SUCKS as well! Absolutely no excuse for the loss against Sonics at home!
I would have to imagine that we won't know how Cuban is as an owner for a few years yet. Wait until his team sucks or he gets in a personnel dispute with his GM or coach. Then, we'll see how he handles it. It is fine to get involved and love your team. But, owners MUST have a certain level of detachment and allow their employees to do their jobs without too much interference. I'm interested to see him on draft day. ------------------ The way to use life is to do nothing through acting, The way to use life is to do everything through being. - Lao-Tzu
I like the guy because he's just like any other fan, with the exception of owning the team. By the way, does anyone know how he got his money? ------------------

Cuban got his money by selling off broadcast.com to Yahoo! for billions, I believe. ------------------ Who's ya daddy?
Man, did he sell at the right time. I wonder how much his former assets are worth now ? I like Cuban, but think he takes it a bit too far sometimes. He has to let his staff do the job (although I don't think "detachment is quite the word for it). I mean, it's fun to dream and argue about personell decisions, but any franchise that your average sports fan was in charge of would probably suck. ------------------ Shandon Anderson rocks. The lottery sucks. Playoffs 2001.
I think I could do a good job running a pro sports team. As a matter of fact, I plan on trying to buy the rocks as soon as I make my first billion. Its one of my life-long dreams. ------------------
Cuban also holds a record for the largest sum online purchase...for a plane...in the many millions of dollars. Old School ------------------ I voted YES!
Hey Jeff, I live in Dallas and use to work for Don Carter. I can tell you this...the fans in Dallas are more excited about the Mavs then they have been in a decade. Don Carter loved the team but it was way down on his list of priority's (behind his business Home Interiors and Gifts). Ross Perot Jr. never cared for the team he just wanted to buy them to make sure he could profit off the new arena. It is his company that started the arena project in Dallas. Cuban is the first owner the Mavs have had that loves the team and makes them his top priority. He has the attitude that he will do what ever it takes to bring a championship to Dallas. I love that in an owner. And for anyone that thinks Cuban just fell into the money, think again. The guy started Broadcast.com with a couple of grand. He paid the employees mostly stock and now they are also millionairs. The guy even took his student loan money when he was at Indiana and used it to buy a bar. The bar paid his way thru college. Hows that for imagination! Mark Cuban is already the best owner the Mavs have ever had. ------------------ [This message has been edited by crash5179 (edited December 31, 2000).] [This message has been edited by crash5179 (edited December 31, 2000).]
The interesting thing was that he developed broadcast.com for the simple reason that he wanted to be able to listen to basketball games on the internet. I think the specific thing was listening to his college team or something like that. Anyways he wanted to listen to the game bad enough so he developed broadcast.com and ended up making milloins off of it. Kind of funny that he made his millions because of his love for basketball and now he is able to buy a team because of that. Dang it. We all love basketball why didnt' we think of it? ------------------ Shane "Save Our Rockets" "Life without basketball in Houston........without an arena that is what it will be"
I'm with you! Imagine making all that money trying to listen to the team you love. BTW it was the Indian Hoosiers he wanted to hear, made millions and then sold the company for 3 Billion dollars! Damn I'm jealous! ------------------
