Does anyone know how to prevent the reception of preapproved credit cards? I do not want any more and it seems I get about three offers per week in my PO Box. I am mostly afraid of the fraud involved in it all.

There's a website you can go to, but I can't remember it right now. I used it and it's cut it down a lot. I still keep getting the blank checks from my own bank which pisses me off.

My wife still gets a ton of cc mail.

Write a letter to each of the credit reporting bureaus and ask them to not allow unsolicited checks of your credit. Their websites all have a form letter if you search. After that, mine went from multiple per day to 1 or 2 a week.

What I don't understand is why I get them but my credit sucks. Even if I apply for them, I won't get them.

you answered your own question, my friend.

credit card companies are predators - they go after you when you are in debt b/c they know that many americans will simply take on more debt. i realize that people need to take individual responsibility for their financial situations, but what the credit card companies to is akin to a drug dealer hanging out in the parking lot at a drug treatment center.

i got so many offers when i had 15k in debt - after being in debt for almost 10 years, i paid off my credit cards last year and and pay off my c.c. balance every month. i hardly ever get offers anymore b/c i am not an attractive client for them. they wont make any money off me.

its easier said than done, but get out of debt asap - focus all your extra income/savings into doing it - dont let those vampires get anymore of your hard earned money. it took me 3 years, but when i finally got out it was a tremendous load off my shoulders.

There's information on the credit card offers that tell you how to get off the credit card mailing lists. It's in really small print, of course, but it's on there. I did it a few months ago and the credit card junk mail has slowed down considerably. I've actually been getting a lot of offers for personal loans through the mail recently.

Anyways, you should shred all of those credit card offers you get, even if they are blank. You'd be surprised at how easy it is for somebody to get your mother's maiden name. The credit card companies are so desperate for new customers, I doubt they even read those applications thoroughly when they get them back.
