The discovery of the dinosaurs kinda effed up the whole bible/creation thing, until RAPTOR JESUS came along.

Why isn't possible that the flood happened after the extinction of dinosaurs?

Because there would be evidence that it rained that long, and the Earth was submerged in water some few thousand years ago.

Plus, the whole acknowledgment of dinosaurs existing thing kinda screws up the creationist argument by a few billion years.

What is a few hundred million years here and there? I mean a day is not a day after all.

They also believe that there were dinosaurs within that span, and that the dinosaurs co-existed with humans.

Reality sorta destroys the whole creationist/intelligent design concept.

I agree that it blows the whole theory out of the water. However, someone I work with who considers herself a very "faithful" person explained to me her theory, and, in a way, it could be considered a plausible explanation...

There is no definition of what a "day" was when G-d was creating the Heavens and the Earth. A day could have been a billion years. Therefore, it's possible that the dinosaurs came and went before Adam and Eve.

Not saying I believe that, but it's one of the more intelligent responses I've heard from someone who believes strongly in creationism, yet acknowledges the fallacies in the argument that most creationists make (i.e. the earth is onle a few thousand years old).

It always astounds me when people make these incredible leaps of "logic" instead of simply acknowledging logical conclusions. I'm speaking about your friend, of course.

European Christians spent hundreds upon hundreds of years searching for a magical king named Prester John believed to rule over a magical utopian Christian kingdom, first somewhere in the East, then it had to be in Africa...what about in the newly discovered lands....

Basically, Christianity (and other religions, too, though Christianity seems to be the biggest culprit) has coerced its followers into believing the most random and illogical and crazy messed up stuff over the years, only to modify their position as time passes to fit current knowledge.

This thread will probably move into D&D at some point. I'm not trying to bash one religion, any religion, etc. I just think the evolution of Christianity is fascinating, especially given how few Christians understand how the religion was started, what many of its beliefs were based on, how it was spread, and how all of that adds up to a highly illogical set of beliefs given the current understanding of our planet and universe.

Yeah, I don't think people realize just how recently those critters were walking around the North America. It would be amazing to still have them around.

i believed in theistic evolution for awhile, but slowly became tired of having to alter my beliefs to make science/my worldview and religion compatible.

from a youtube video: "everyone knows that the TRUE stuff in the bible should be taken literally, but the FALSE things are merely metaphors!"

Doesn't the Catholic Church believe in the Big Bang Theory now?
