Dang. I'm fairly sure that I picked up a keystroke logger off of Omegle.com. I entered a chat and a bunch of command-line looking text popped up, saying keystroke logger installed. I closed the window, and ran a bunch of different scans with MRT, Malwarebytes and MS Forefront, but nothing came up. However, when I type, there's a slight lag now.

I usually just blast the OS and reinstall, but it's such a pain. Anyone have any experience with removing loggers?

I think it was just a hoax? I dont think someone can send u a virus through Omeagle and if they did, what type of virus would let u know that it was installed?

My initial reaction but I doesn't hurt to be paranoid with these things.

I suspect they're trying to sucker you into a scam.

There are software products (and frequently in web sites) that will create a popup that looks fancy, technical and official and tell you that there is a keylogger, virus, trojan or some other bad-sounding thing on your computer. This will usually be prompted with a "click here" to clean your machine, which will actually install their terrible software which acts more like a virus than an anti-virus.

That's the equivalent of driving down the road, seeing a billboard that says, "Warning: your car is low on oil. Pull over here to get an oil change" and blindly following it.

Know your computer. Know what brand of antivirus/antimalware is installed. If THAT software tells you you're infected, then update that software and run scans.

Boot into safe mode and see if it still does that crap (if you're running windows, of course)

If it doesn't, and you're running windows, use system restore to a point before you had that problem.

I suggest you cancel all of your charge cards as soon as possible.

Drox and others- thanks for the input.

I'm familiar with the whole fake AV scam, and this ain't it. It was just a bunch of text in the chat window. I haven't had any popups or fake av running since. Just slow typing- which is what worries me.

I use MS Forefront because I find it very good with a low footprint. I also use MRT and Malwarebytes. None of these found anything, but they're all fallible since they're only as good as their definitions.

I also checked my startup via regedit and don't see anything out of the ordinary. But still...the delay in typing.

Anyway, I'll just blast the OS. I like to do it every few months anyway...I just wasn't ready.
