I my calls me this morning distraught because she was just scammed of 300 bucks last night on craigslist.

She went and bought tickets to the Lakers/Suns game last night. The tickets she said looked real enough and of course they couldnt get into the game because the scanners didnt read the tickets. The staff there couldnt tell if they were real or not but then at the box office they said they were fake.

She is really upset because 300 dollars is not a huge amount of money but its still enough where you get upset that it was thrown away. she said she reported it but i doubt anything will come of it.

i was a bit upset because she didnt tell me she was looking for tickets, I could have tried to get her seats cheaper elsewhere for the game last night.

I told her she should see if the guy posts again selling tickets to give him a different phone number and meet up with him and then have a bunch of us beat his ass and then if he has 300 dollars or less on him to take that money.

the one time I did buy tickets from craigs I had the guy meet me and i knew he was legit as he gave me the tickets straight from his season ticket holders folder that had all the tickets for every game and parking passes. the other time my friend did for us I told him to have the guy meet us at staples and one of us went inside first with one ticket to see if it was legit while the other waited with the guy to pay him the cash.

anyone else ever had issues and what have you guys done? I feel bad for her she was just wanting to go to a game with her friend and now is out 300 bucks

Geez, sorry to hear that. $300 isn't going to change your life but to pay that money, get all excited to arrive at the stadium only to be rejected and told the tickets you are purchased were fake? That's a total bummer.

She has to have some form of contact information, right? How did they did do the original transaction? If she has a phone number you can pay to look up the person's information. Even an email address helps.

Is there a simple way to tell if the tickets are fake or not? I'm always skeptical of scalpers at the TC because they usually have good seats at low prices.

Used Craiglist to get tickets to Lakers or Clippers the last 4 times. Its worked each time but I'm ALWAYS nervous as hell if the ticket will scan or not. If they email the email version of the tickets, nothing can keep someone from sending out the same version multiple times.

$300 is plenty enough money. If you need an extra hand for the hitman crew, I might be in the county

Always pay through paypal for Craigslist or ebay. A safe bet to protect yourself.

yeah she has a phone number she could do a reverse lookup on him.

i dont know where they met etc.

i didnt go into too many details with her since she was bummed as it was no need to make her feel even dumber

In NYC, alot of the ticket scalpers sell fake Ticketmaster tickets. These are literally hardcopy Ticketmaster tickets and they look very convincing. When you get to the front of the line to a concert, the tickets won't scan. That is why I never buy from a scalper or someone shady looking. Just buy from people who look like fans or who are standing in line, etc...

my brother bought tickets off of ebay once.. i think it was 90 bucks each

they were legit tickets except for the fact that the season ticket holder who issued the tickets cancelled the tickets sold on ebay and re-issued them.

so our tickets didnt work and we had to buy 200 dollar seats close to game time to actually watch it.

Use stubhub. They have some kind of guarantee I'm not sure how it works but they have one.

I've purchased dozens of tickets through them no problems yet.

I do not get this at all. $300 IS a lot of money for a sporting event, or for any event in that manner.

That sucks man. Craigslist is definitely hit or miss. I'd probably hire a hitman though for being out $300.

That sucks, man. But be sure if y'all catch him, you don't beat him until after you get the money as a "forced refund." Then, maybe still don't beat him, but sic the cops on him.

I remember when this girl off craigslist posted "Hot gal, 25, wants ski partner" and I told her to come on over. I thought "SWEET!!! NIGHT SKIIING WITH A 25 YEAR OLD HOTTIE!!!!" I had the jeep all packed up with my snow gear and skis when she showed up looking for blow. It was awkward to say the least.

My cousin got scammed out of $3000 trying to buy a car on craigslist.

Stupid, yes, but still sucks for him.
