I got an xbox a while ago, it's pretty nice, and I've bought several games for it. I find that the problem with xbox is that all good games are still 49.99, and there aren't good 20 dollar games like there is for ps2.

I've heard from a bunch of people, some on this board, that you can burn xbox games. I wonder if anyone here has done it and could let me know how hard it is / what is involved. I mean I'm not really technologically advanced with taking computers apart and stuff, so I don't want to screw the machine up, but I mean I have had four years of ivy league education and so if it's not too much unlike installing ram chips I think could do it.

    Thanks in advance.

right... haha... I guess this IS illegal. I guess I used to do this all the time when I was younger with my computer games so I didn't think about it.

But geez do they really need to charge 50 bucks a game? I mean Prince of Persia Sands of Time was worth those 50 bucks, otherwise I think they're being excessive.

I have a friend who put a mod chip in his XBox and upgraded the hard drive. Hooked it up to the Internet and pirated his ass off.

He has *literally* 250 games on his system. I offered him $500 cash for it, and he only laughed.

I know a guy who rigged his xbox with the mod chipand a wireless NIC to read the games he has ripped and stored on his server and load them from there. He doesn't even have to burn the disks now plus the games load faster according to him. He's said he got all the info from some google search's.

It isn't illegal if you are copying games that you own. Right? So this thread isn't entirely bad.

Anyways I have a chip for my PS2, got 30 new games this past month. Loving it so far, just wish it was more reliable (my chip), it doesn't work everytime I boot it up.

That is true, that is the only reason that these mod chips can be sold. There is a big disclaimer basically stating that this intended for use only with copies of games that you own and they are not responsible for what you do with it yada yada yada.

I havn't mod'd my PS2 yet, but the PS1 that I mod'd won't play some games unless I use the copied CD. Maybe that is your problem.

Perhaps. I can still play the originals of mine too though. I went a head and put in a modchip since my warranty is over etc. I thought it was worth it since games are so expensive (for me a college student).

The games cost $50 a pop BECAUSE of pirating.

Copying is illegal. Making a remote backup for a friend is less so.

I'm pretty sure it is quite similar to installing ram chips. Just take the X-Box game, crack open your X-Box system, and slowly apply pressure into the middle of the circuitry until you hear a *click*. This tells you the CD has been copied. The new disc will be mailed to you within 6-8 weeks. It's a snap!

First of all, no you can't play Live with a modded XBox. I know a guy who does modding and Microsoft is able to domehow monitor your system and determine if it isn't a standard Box.

I know...a guy...yeah that's it, a guy with a modded Box. He loves it. Not only is he able to burn games (assuming you know someone who works at a game store like...this guy..does) but you're able to save emulators of other systems and movies in .mpeg format. All in all it's worth an investment. The only problem that will occur is when companies learn to better encode their games so that current mod chips won't be able to save it. So you might need to mod it again sometime in the future.

So... uh... can you ask... this guy... how long it takes total to do, how much it costs, and if there are any risks of messing up the system? Also, is a DVD R drive required or can you just save to the hard disk and play off there.

Dude, I know how to mod systems too. It's not that hard. Most chips you have come with instructions on which parts to connect. (ports). Just some soddering.

On whether your system can get ruined, it depends on the guy installing the chip. If a person does a bad job (doesn't do it right) then sure, he can mess it up. If a mechanic does a bad job on your car, is it messed up? YES.
So having a modchip won't mess up your system if it is a decent chip (recomended etc.) and if it is installed correctly.

On prices, are you asking how much the chips cost or the installation price by a person? http://www.modchip.com

Good chips don't cost much. I have a $69.00 chip in mine.

Ok, I think I should stop it there. I want to stop now before I cross the line of the moderators tolerance to this subject. (If you are looking for "copied games you don't own original copies of" then it is "illegal". So I don't want to get on their bad side for talking about this and keeping this thread alive.

They are coming out with "good" $20 games though. There are a lot of 1-2 year old titles that have come out at the $20 level over the past 6 months or so, along with some other value titles. You can also buy used games at Gamespot. True, PS2 has been out longer, so there's a lot more of the "classic" games available, but I have a hard time believing you really want those games.
