Howdy, I have a question for the tech savy out there. - If I have a old analog TV Set that already has cable, when I attach a digital converter box would I get a digital picture? With the cable on the set now I'm not getting any of the sub tv channels E.g 13.2 , 8.2 .? Thanks ( Do I need to contact the cable provider to get a special digital connection? )
Not tech savvy, but I don't think you can hook up cable to a digital converter box (not digital cable box). And I don't think it will give you a better picture...it only converts the signal to analog so that the picture can be seen on a non HD set. I guess you could buy a switching device to switch between basic cable and antenna. But the subchannels are available on digital cable and can be viewed on a non HD set. Check the 300's.
if you have cable you don't need a converter box for getting channels. i assume you have an analog tv. if you want more channels just ask for a cable box. the converter is for people who just watch free antenna tv.
Yes, converter box will get you the digital subchannels off the air for free - if you have an antenna. You do not need to contact your cable provider unless you want to switch to digital cable. In which case, they will supply you with a digital cable converter box, and charge you a little more for digital service.
Apparently Cable companies are calling customers and insisting that they purchase a converter in anticipation of 2009, it's sad because people are actually getting tricked into buying it...
What cable companies are doing this? I have seen Comcast commercials that tell customers that there is nothing they need to purchase or do if they have cable TV.
