I've worn Acuvue disposable lenses for years. When I run out, I just reorder on-line from 1-800 Contacts. Recently, I wanted to try the Acuvue 1 day disposal lenses and also the Acuvue Advanced. The problem is that the web site said that I need to be fitted for these lenses separately and the prescription for the regular Acuvue lenses will not work. My questions are: 1) Why? The diameter of my eye is constant. Perhaps the contact lens base curve is different for the different types of lenses? 2) Is there some conversion that can be used so that I can convert my regular Acuvue perscription to a perscription for one of the newer lenses? 3) Has anyone tried the Acuvue 1 day lenses or the Acuvue Advanced?
I'm going to avoid your questions and try and scare into going back to the eye doctor. I was doing the same thing you were. Wore contacts for years, avoided going to the eye doctor. When I finally went recently, I ran into to some major issues because of over wearing my contacts, including the warping of my cornea which causes double vision when I wear my glasses. Scared the bejesus out of me. Thought I was going to have to have cornea surgery. Please go to the eye doctor.
I knew I was going to get a response that told me to go to the eye doctor. I think it is sound advice. However, I usually only wear contacts when I workout or play sports. So I don't wear contacts every day and when i do it is usually only for a few hours at a time. This is mainly why I am interested in the 1 day disposable lenses.
I use the normal 2 week Acuvue Advance. I like them but you wouldn't need them if you only wear them for short periods of time. The thing about advance is it lets more oxygen into your eye then other contacts, but its not worth the extra price if you just wear them occationally for short periods. I wear mine all night and I think they help by the end of the day. I also think they are more comfortable to sleep in when that happens. They don't glue to you eyeball as bad as others. My .02
Nervous Nelly here. That's what I did too. Same contact, slept in them. The sticking to your eye is a sign that you aren't getting enough oxygen and it could lead to edema (swelling) of your eyeballs. You will look like this guy
