I'm preparing tro take my class to get my CHL. For those of you that have done it before, can you recommend a good place to take the course? I'm looking for how much it costs and relative proximity to West U.

    Refman,

I was looking into doing the same not too long ago. You can sign up for classes at Carter's Country as well as through places such as Leisure Learning, I think.

You will probably have to sign up well in advance; I hear class sign ups went through the roof after Sept. 11 (although it has likely dropped again to more-normal levels)

The fees come to about $120 bucks. It may be more depending on where you go (and if you use your own gun/ammo, or use theirs and purchase ammo from them, etc.)

    Good luck!

EDIT: You might need this too, although its likely to be provided to you at your class:

Download : Form TR-80 (Request for an Application to Carry a Concealed Handgun) Adobe Acrobat Format

    Refman --

I know you...I know you pretty well....the thought of you carrying a gun around when we go catch a 'stros game or we head to SRO to watch the Rockets draft is absolutely frightening to me. :D Now I can't make little sarcastic remarks around you...you just might shoot me!

    Max,

Take solice in the fact that if he carried it into SRO he could be arrested.

You can not carry a concealed handgun into a bar.

Top Gun is an indoor gun range off Richmond and Fountain View and offers the course. A guy I work with saw Shaq there a while back and got him to autograph a basketball and a box of 9mm shells for him.

Thanks for the info. I will check it out. I went to Top Gun several months ago, but they won't let you fire standard Makarov ammo. The only Makarov ammo they will let you shoot is the stuff you buy from them at $22 a box.
