I have a Sony Vaio VGN CR100 that my mom recently bought.. She forgot her password and now she can't use the computer. The computer comes with Vista Home Premium and we tried to reset the password but we don't have a password disc. I took it into Fry's but they are looking for 80 bucks to restore the whole laptop.. I googled in for Microsoft support but i cant find it.. any help would be appreciated! thanks
Not very familar with vista, but with xp you can go into safe mode and access the admin account to change passwords and user accounts. Not sure if vista has safe mode or not, maybe you can try it. And if you need to restore it, i'm sure you should have restore cds or somethng built in to where you can do it yourself.
If you need to restore just use the disks that came with it. If it didn't come with any discs then most likely there is a partition on the hard drive with the restore information and you have to hit something like F2 or F3 depending on the computer. Did she not setup a password hint just in case?
Here is a link on how to create the password disc. Just get on someones computer that has Vista. http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/5bf12a40-12b5-4ca8-87c3-7741adbd15841033.mspx
yea theres a password hint on the computer but it's frustrating because she can't remember it. oooo ok thanks for putting on the robe and wizard hat! this is much better, you saved my mom 80 bucks!
I have a windows hack boot floppy. It's a floppy disk (yeah, I'm old) that you insert and boot off of and it lets you remove any account's password (including admin). After doing that, you just log in as admin and it prompts you to create a new password. However... 1) I don't know if it'll work on Vista 2) You need to have a floppy drive (most new machines don't) 3) It should really only be used as a last resort.
I've a old floppy as well. It boots up in linux and edits the SAM. You can find different versions all over the internet. Just google "NT password cracker Vista"
I wouldnt load a hacker's program to crack my password. On another note, how could she forget the password? Write it down next time and just spend the 80 bucks.
You don't need to spend any money with the new vista password cd you can make. Easy enough to reset the password.
