I am using a Compaq Laptop that uses Windows XP and Im trying to get my external HD working on it.

Usually XP macihines recognize my Buslink Yellow HD without having me to update the drivers. And when I download from this link

    http://www.buslink.com/driver/USBHD/3in1/VER16/3in1.exe

it allows the HD to work properly on the XP machine.

However, on my Compaq it didnt recognize it. And when Install the 3in1.exe it says this driver is for Win 98 and 2000 only, however when I click the shortcut on the site it says USB 1 HARD DRIVE Windows 98, ME, XP, & 2000 Note: This driver is for the USB 1 drive only. (The P and the L series yellow case only)

    at this address LINK

WHy is it my computer is not recognizing it? Also when I try to update the drivers using this supposedly proper 3in1exe, it says that may not be compatible with XP and that updating the driver may make XP unstable do you want continue? And I say no because it strongly reccomends not too.

Anyone know what I should do to get ths HD working?

That should do it, but make a restore point before you go through

Any driver that has not been tested and certified to be in compliance with XP will come up with that message...

do as adeel said and make a restore point before you do it...and then say yes that you want to use it..
