I have been using this PC for a few months now. The O/S is XP. Everything is fine until today when I turned the machine on, the 'Add New Hardware Wizard' window popped up. It said it found a new hardware and so it needed to install the 'PCI Simple Communication Controller'.

This machine was bought with all the hardwares installed and I have not installed any additional hardware in it. So why would the PC suddenly have found a 'new' hardware and wanted to install the controller? Does anyone know what is going on?

Hmm...does a virus behave in that way? Anyway, I have run a few virus scanners and nothing was found.

This can also occur if you recieved a new Windows Update. Sometimes there are new drivers and it is trying to update them.
