im trying to get some memory for this oldish slowish laptop i have. im curious what this means... 2 SODIMM sockets, one is user-accessible and one is factory configurable. does that mean that if i opened the bottom of the laptop i would only be able to change one of the slots and would have to take it to someone and pay to have it changed? or does it mean that one slot came with memory installed already with memory when the laptop was bought? i want to buy 2 512s to make a gig. and in saying that which one of these is the "better, faster, better deal" the first link, or the second amazon link??? memoryx.net amazon.com and if anyone knows of a better site/better deal i could get. im looking for the best memory i can get for this computer since i can only upgrade to a total of one gig for it. If only one memory slot is user-replaceable, it usually means that you can only replace one stick of memory. The other memory is usually soldered to the motherboard. So, get a 1G stick and replace the stick you can access. The onboard memory will add to that gig.
i think this computer only supports 512 maximum in each slot. at least thats the largest i see when i google memory for this laptop. i guess i need to bring it in some wheres. thanks
Go to crucial.com and download their online system scanner and it will tell you exactly how much memory it can handle.
I did the scanner and it says my computer has 640mb and it recommends upgrading to 2gb. Would I notice any better performance if I upgrade to 2gigs.
