OK, I have a brand new computer which I just bought last week. It has a 40 GB hard drive, 1.8 GHz Celeron Processor, 512 RAM, runs Windows XP, and so on...basically it's a good computer. The problem I am having is that it is really, REALLY slow. I click on something and it takes 5-10 minutes for the action to get done. I tried to print something out last night and didn't get it printed till this morning!!! Now whenever I click on something the hourglass just keeps showing up and nothing happens at all, such as when I am trying to run Kazaa or start my Yahoo! Messenger. What could be doing this and how can I fix it!!!! PLEASE HELP!
Is it up to date? I wouldnt use kazaa right now. I dont remember the name...but there is a pretty bad virus going through Kazaa right now...and IRC.'s
Uninstall Kazaa. And look through your folder where your downloads are. and make sure you only have what u downloaded in there. I had a problem like that on my laptop. I uninstalled kazza. and deleted everything/ uninstalled, everything i downloaded. Except my music. U know...it could be anti virus too. On my desktop Norton for some reason really slows it down so that if i right click i have to wait a number o f seconds, which is pretty annoying when the task should be immediate.
I wasnt sure. that is what i was wondering. Most antivirus programs can be updated through the internet like NOrton.
Oops. Sorry about the previous post (sticky keys). Lil Pun, Windows XP has alot of good tools to help you with this problem. I have XP myself. Here is probably the simplest solution: First, press control-alt-delete (only once). This will bring up the task manager. Click on the processes tab. This will bring up a list of all the programs and stuff that are currently running. One of the headings says "CPU". This column tells you what percentage of the processor that each program is using. If you see a program or process that is using a high percentage of the CPU power, that is probably your problem. Highlight it and click "end process". The very last program in that list is "System Idle Process". This should be relatively high (70-90 depeding on how many programs you are running). I am currently running my email program, two web browsers and AOL IM and my SIP is at 90%. Hope that helps.
Actually I can repsond but I am using another, older computer in the house. I'll try to mess with Kazaa and see if that is it.
I have a new(er) VPR Matrix, win XP, 512 KB, 2.26 ghz pentium4, cdrw, dvd, and last week it started to be slow and when I cotrol alt del it would only show the running application list (didn't show processing, networking, user, etc tabs). So I backed up via $.10 worth of cdr's and formated, then reinstalled everything. And it works like new.
