Buy a legitimate copy of your OS.

Bootlegged MS products and/or cracked serial codes can cause problems. I read an account where if you use a cracked code the S/W will work for a while and then quit working.

If you're using a bootleg, then make sure you boot from the CD, rather than simply installing from the OS. Also, make sure that the bootleg is an image of the original XP CD.

if is any system file corrupt, re-format should fix it. i think it should be some kind of hardware corruption, or your power system has problem.

Bootleg versions of xp won't cause this. I don't what is causing the problem, but almost everyone i know uses a bootleg version, and they have never had this problem.

Even if the bootleg version isn't causing the problems, you should purchase a copy instead of using an illegal copy.

First off, it's the right thing to do.

Second off, you never know who is reading the boards (or anything on the Internet, for that matter). Information can be tracked and if the proper authorities caught wind of such a use of pirated software, then serious consequences may result.

I've seen crazier things happen with regards to illegal digital software/data and the Internet.

Here is another possibility. If you system just spontaneously reboots (maybe it freezes for a couple of seconds before the reboot?) it could be either your system is over heating or you have a card (like a video card) that is overheating.

Make sure you have the case on your system, that your fans are working properly and that the ventelation holes are unobstructed. If you have a fancy video card with a fan on it, make sure it's fan is actually working.

You can buy extra pc fans for pretty cheep. It's never bad to have your pc cooler than it needs to be. Heat is your enemy.

hey, i didnt want to start an entire new thread for this.

does anyone else have those annoying grey pop-up messages that claim to be from windows messenger? they always have some URL on them you can go to to stop them, but the url just tries to sell you something for 30 bucks.

"MAKE THIS YOUR LAST POP UP

    go to www.messageblockerdotcom"

    yadda yadda

ive run anti-virus and spybot software. ive also blocked windows messenger on my firewall. they still keep popping up. if im away from my computer for about an hour ill come back to 20 or so of them.

if anyone knows how to stop these things, information would be greatly appriciated.

    thanks
    Brian

This is a possibility for Smallz problem, also bad RAM has been known to cause this sort of problem. Heat is the most likely suspect.

    Smallz,

when you reinstalled, did you totally wipe and reformat your drive before reinstalling? If so, and you are still having the problem..then you need to look to see if you have a large buildup of dust/dirt that might be restricting airflow. Also, how old is your HD? if you have a bad spot in the system file area..it could cause problems..

I know people that are using pirated versions of XP, and they have never mentioned this as a problem..so I doubt thats it.
as Hydra and mfclark said...go ahead and get a paid copy, then you can use all the features and dont have to worry about getting in trouble.

    Nashvegas,

what OS are you using? There was a known problem with the shutdown sequence in Win95/98 and if you are using a pirated copy of XP, you cannot use Windows update because it checks your serial during the update process...

    weakfromtoday,

that has all the signs of spyware...download some other spyware software because the one you are using isnt detecting the one that is on your system. Did you install something that is ad supported? Ex: DivxPro comes bundled with Gator, which pops up ads at random times...

Besides windows xp, have you installed other software already? If that's the case, there is a chance that some of the software got bugs (or you might want to see if there is a new driver etc for your device or if there are updates on other software) that's not compatible with xp yet (especially true if you got old version softwares)!

Try install the softwares one by one & test it to see which one that caused the problem...

Rockets 2k.. my hard drive is about 2 years old.. but at first the HD was what was causing problems, we put in a new CD ROM so theres 2 there now. I am not sure if dirt is causing the problem and i know it's not the fan because we just had put in a brand new fan
