I'm having a problem and I'm not sure if its my computer's graphics card or my monitor. The problem is that sometimes the screen will have a yellow tint to everything, then it'll go away. Then sometimes it will flicker like that.

I have a two/three month old VPR Matrix desktop with a 32 MB GeForce2 MX200 graphics card and a three/four year old monitor.

If its the monitor then that's not bad c/c I was planning on upgrading to an LCD or maybe just stick with a larger CRT.

Thanks for any help/suggestions (on whether its the monitor of computer).

Do you have access to another computer that you could try your monitor on? If it still goes to yellow, then you have a monitor problem.

I bet it's a monitor problem -- sounds like one b/c I've had similar problems before. Try moving the cable -- see if that creates a Yellow tint or not because I've had it happen where the wires are bad and when you hold the cable one way it looks good and another way it looks bad.

Also try unplugging the monitor, blowing on the connections and reconnecting the monitor. Could just be some dust in there interfering.

OR it could be something physically wrong with the monitor. I suppose it could be the video card also, but I'd doubt it.

Also check the cable. Sometimes if a pin gets bent or broken it will give you a yellow tint to the screen. I had one once that a pin broke and everything looked purplish

I had the same problem but my monitor would turn greenish blue... it was the monitor. I would give the monitor a good whack on the side of the case and it would go back to normal... I eventually got a new monitor...

to quickly get a new monitor, do this....

    ------> o <------
    insert nail here
    for new monitor

    LOL.

I tried messing with the cord and it does change it back to normal/yellow. So now I have a good excuse to buy a new monitor. Thanks to all that helped.

NOW it brings me to my next question...Should I get a 15" LCD or a 17" CRT (19"+ are too big for my desk)?

I heard that pixels on LCD's go out often, how true is that?

I am having a sound problem, in that my computer won't make sounds anymore. It was fine until a storm hit and the power went out, could a power surge have blown my sound card (it isn't the speakers, because headphones don't work either)? I have the computer plugged into a surge protector. Is there some other reason I'm not thinking of that the sound would go out. BTW, it isn't on mute or anything like that.

This probably isn't what the problem is, but on my old computer the sound first went out (which was on the motherboard), then the ps/2 (mouse + keyboard) went out, then the USB...So I had no way to use the computer (Without buying a usb pci card). So I determined that the motherboard was going bad and bought the forementioned VPR Matrix.

Not to give away too much but I buy all the computers and monitors for my employees at Fever Pitch...and I have been buying 21" monitors on EBAY at around $200.

    I have had no problems.

The best have been the Viewsonic P8xx series.....great monitor for a good price.

    Ebay Rocks.

I love eBay visit it for mainly Rockets stuff and have looked on it for monitors for a while now. I've looked at LCD's, but I'm scared to buy a LCD without a warranty and I've been looking at CRT's, but I want a 17 inch w/ black/silver case, flat screen name brand (Viewsonic, Dell, Gateway, Compaq, etc.) , But haven't found one for the $170 BestBuy price after shipping.
