So, I turned my laptop on this morning and the colors on the screen are all messed up. What should be red is green, what should be black is white, what should be yellow is purple, etc. Pictures all look like they were taken with an infrared camera. I really have no clue what the problem is. Everything else is functioning fine, but it's hurting my eyes to look at this screen. It seems like my computer always ****s up right before finals.

So, does anyone know what the problem could be? If so, could I fix it myself?

Possibly a bad cable to the screen's RGB input?

 You can always send your INFRARED-LIKE laptop to this here guy as I am sure he will be able to tell INFRARED from 'real':

Either the monitor/display adapter is dieing or the connections have some how gotten lose.

When a cable from a desktop to a monitor is loose it'll cause similar color issues.

    How old is your laptop?

Try hooking your laptop up to an external monitor and see how it looks on that.

I restarted it again, the login menu was fine, all the colors were right. Then the desktop loading and look fine for 3-4 seconds, then switched to this wierd color crap again.

It's a macbook pro that will be 2 years old this summer
I was finishing a term paper in my bedroom last night and it was fine when I was done. I turned it on to print this morning and this happened. No one could have messed with it.
unfortunately I do not have one with me here

This. If it's doing the same thing. It's your video card.

Test it on external monitor and if it is fine there then you know it is a lcd component most likely and it probably is the lcd data cable in that case. Try re-seating it from both ends.

this. but make sure to use it on the external for a day or two. I'd buy a new laptop if you don't have a warantee on it.. not worth replacing the LCD
