    Poor Kam, now you should realize your popularity in this BBS. :D

    It is really strange to get a green light while other devices seemed not responding at all. I did not own a Dell PC but let me try to isolate your root cause:

    1. Green light, no beep sound normally means
    - power supply ok, mother board ok, video card ok, RAM ok, keyboard and mouse ok.
    - There should be TWO green lights while your PC boot up, one to indicate the healthiness of power supply and CPU system and the other for your harddisk (usually next to a "cylinder" sign). So are both LEDs on (green lights) or only one of them was on but the other was off? Please elaborate more.
    - If you found the harddisk light was on constantly, or blinking for a very long period of time (over 2 minutes), even in green colour, it is very likely that your hard disk is corrupted. The system failed to find a system disk to boot your computer system. If that's the case, I suggest you to seek help from DELL support directly and you may ignore the remaining words of this post...Hope you made your own data backup and good luck.

    2. You said no lights from keyboard and mouse, so here's my question:
    - are you using USB keyboard and mouse? If yes, probably the boot up self-checking routines had not reached these devices yet;
    - if you are using PS2 connections, you should hear beep sounds as soon as the power was turned on should there be any problem on these devices.

    3. You mentioned "no signal" on your monitor, so are you using LCD monitor, and there are words like "no signal" displayed on the monitor or you noticed "orange" light from your monitor panel? I am using HP PC and there were a couple (2 times before) incidents recently where my CPU could not detect the CRT monitor (IBM) and turned off automatically. When I rebooted my PC, I saw green light on my CPU but orange light from my monitor. I needed to detach my monitor then re-connect it to my CPU, power-off then power-on again, and it resumed normal again.
    - So I suggest you to power off your PC, detach every connection from your CPU, then just reconnet your keyboard, mouse and monitor, and then power on. If the problem persisted, you should seek help from DELL support directly.

    You may have already done the above self-checking, then sorry for wasting your time. :p

    Good luck!

    sounds like something that happened to me a while ago...i had a old laptop just turn on with nothing on screen but all other functions working like fan...it turned out to be my BIOS...so you might have to replace the BIOS chip and install new firmware...

    say i undo the power plug.

    it turns off after 20 seconds. i plug the plug back in from the computer. the light already lights up, but nothing happens. the light im talking about is the power button light in the front. there is only one light display.

    no sounds, no motors, no nothing, but a sad look on my face.

    anything?

    Because... ummm... uhhh... I think that's what it's supposed to do, unless you tell the BIOS Not to do that. :D

    Your problem is that power is not going through to the motherboard to start up the rest of the components. I say you've got a bad MotherBoard, man. Past that, I can't really help you. :( Wished I could, but the Rockets are about to pound the Mavs right now. :(

    There's no clear answer. You're gonna have to open it up, take some digital pics if you have to, and then follow Rockets2k's advice piece by piece.

    It might be one thing or a host of things. If it's the motherboard, usually those things can't be fixed.

    When you cut the power, the green light should turn off immediately, not 20 seconds later. Are you using a UPS to stabilize the power supply? If so, please disconnect your UPS and connect your PC to the power supply directly and retry.

    If you have a dell, it sounds like the capacitor problem or something similar. You have to replace the motherboard. You can probably find one on ebay for less that 50 dollars.

    As long as your hard drive is fine, take it out and plug it in the new computer you should have all your old stuff.

    I thought you hadn't opened up your PC case.

    Power goes from your AC outlet on your wall to the cable to the power supply and then to the motherboard. If your motherboard is on, the power supply is good, but there is something that is jacked up with cables allowing the power to go to the rest of the components :( .

    Check this out:
    http://www.computer-cursus.nl/support/hardware.htm (read a little, man). If you're willing to check what's wrong with it and take a little while, this explains how to troubleshoot some components.

    let me try this ...............

    Do you have any kind of boot-up disk, CD? such as a windows install CD, put it in and see if it can boot-up. You know you have to access the BIOS and choose to boot-up from CD-rom right? If it works, then everything except your hard drive is most likely OK!

    Do you hear your hard drive working?

    Honestly, the best you can do is find someone to help. I can pretty much deal with any computer problem myself, but help you via BBS is hard.
