    Hello.

It's your favorite ClutchFans poster, Kam.

I am using the computer at work here.

My computer at home is not working :(

It turns on, but nothing boots up, nothing happens. I see the green light turn on, but nothing happens. I know it's not booting up because the mouse doesn't light up, or the keyboard doesn't do it's thing. The monitor has so signal.

I'm thinking it might be the fan or something, but my computer is not a super duper computer, so it doesn't need to cool down so much.

I didn't work on it too much because I was too tired to last night. When I get home, I will take a look at it, and post here tommorow.

Any suggestions or ideas to why it is not turning on?

Do you hear the fan come on?

Do you hear the memory beep?

Describe EXACTLY what happens when you turn it on.

what kind of noise does it make? any beeps? how many?

sounds like a stupid question, but the number of beeps tells you a lot (missing video card, bad RAM etc). If there's no video signal, it's probably something along the lines of: overheating, bad power supply, video card that is disconnected or loose, bad RAM, bad processor etc.

it doesnt beep, i didnt really check to see if the fan came on.

the green light is the thing that turns on when you turn it on.

the keyboard light doesnt come on, the mouse light doesnt come on.

    its a Dell.

    :(

sounds like you blew out your board...

with a dead drive, you'll at least get the BIOS bootup stuff...

with a dead video card, you'll at least get your hard drives spinning...

is the system still under warranty?

barring all that, it sounds like it's time to hop on the vista bandwagon and buy an HP :)

let me know if you need anything from HPshopping.com

i have a $10 coupon in additional to like 10%-20% off through our employee purchase plan.

Check out Dell's manuals page for some troubleshooting. It's pretty helpful.

Bad power supplies on Dells usually have a blinking amber power light.

You know in places like Bestbuy they won't even bother looking at your computer if it won't boot. It could be the cpu, motherboard or any number of things. Good luck, you will need it.

    heh

sounds like a few guys I know....automatically assume the worst...that way you can scare the customer into buying a new one.

Ockham's Razor is the principle I like to use in these situations.

    disconnect EVERYTHING from the mobo.

see if it beeps at all

if it does, start reconnecting things and restarting after each one till it doesnt

    update.

my computer still does not work.

there is an amber light. i think its amber. yellow looking?

when i unplug the power cord, the light automatically turns on, but nothing happens.

    no beeps, no nothing.

    im sad.

anyhoo, if the comp is fried, dead, kapoot, i will buy a new computer with my tax thingie.

but, i rather take donations. i will accept donations. no food, no drinks, just money for a comp.

with my new computer i can post twice or three times as fast. i will finally catch up to samfisher, and codell, and rocketman95, and dadokta.
