Ok, here's the deal. I went a bought a new computer and of course it came with windows vista. Well, I pop in my yahoo dsl cd to load the software so I can use DSL on my new computer and it says its not supported. I am going to do a search and see if I can get a new version of the software so I can surf the net. Right now, I have to settle for my old computer. I did however, purchase a pretty bad ass computer and a flash drive (2 gig); my first one. So, any help would be nice. Who should I contact first, Microsft or At&T? Tim
There's gotta be a "Vista" section in their help. I use SBC yahoo! as well. If I can find something before you do, I will post it. Don't lose hope. There has to be a way to connect to the Internet using DSL with these dudes without having to install something from that CD. EDIT: Start Here, dude.
You don't need to install the software to surf on SBC/ATT DSL. Sign in with the temporary registration ID of sbcyahooreg@sbcglobal.net password: sbcyahooreg -- Then go to help.sbcglobal.net/register and go through the new acct registration. Once you are through with the registration, just connect with your new ID and password and you are done.
I believe that SBC only requires the CD to be used only the initial time to setup the modem with the login credentials. If you are using ethernet (as opposed to USB) you should be good to plug in the ethernet cable and be working. If that does not work, power cycle the modem, then reboot your pc.
I use SBC DSL and have never installed anything on this "new" PC running Vista from that CD they gave me. It's probably better without it - they install crap you don't need anyway.
Well guys, I got it. Thanks for all your help. I honestly didn't know that simply clicking internet explorer and putting it in your original user name and password would do the trick. I took so good care of my cd for SBC. I don't need it now. Wow. Anyways, thanks. I just set up a router and the internet for two computers. I'm finally somewhat up on technology. Tim
